Verizon Wireless says 4G LTE services are back in action Posted: 29 Dec 2011 04:56 AM PST Verizon Wireless has announced that the 4G LTE service outage from yesterday has been resolved and that service has been restored for users across the country. The carrier notes that 3G service was unaffected and customers were able to place calls and send and receive text messages without issue. This was the third LTE outage that Verizon faced during the month of December, and at least the fourth outage affecting multiple parts of the country in 2011. Read the full story here. |

Verizon users hit with another data outage Posted: 28 Dec 2011 11:23 AM PST We have been tipped off to some reports that Verizon Wireless' network is having data troubles in various parts of the country - especially for 4G LTE devices. The Verge reports that LTE service is not working in New York City, and we are unable to connect to the network with various devices in Pennsylvania. In upstate New York, however, data services seem to be working, but flaky - connections are continuously failing. This seems to be yet another headache for Verizon and its usually rock-solid wireless network, as this marks at least the third outage of 2011. As with the outages from earlier this year, it seems that voice and text message services are unaffected, so users can still make calls as needed. Still, the speediest network in the world is of no use if you can't reliably connect to it. Read the full story here. |
LG launches Prada Phone 3.0 in South Korea; Europe, Asia to follow next month Posted: 28 Dec 2011 06:13 AM PST LG has released its new fashion-forward smartphone, the Prada Phone by LG 3.0, in its home country of South Korea. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone is due to arrive in Europe and parts of Asia in January. The third iteration of the Prada Phone sports a dual-core, 1GHz processor, a 4.3-inch WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) display, and an 8 megapixel camera. Read the full story here. |
Windows Phone roadmap says Tango update coming Q2 2012, Apollo in Q4 Posted: 28 Dec 2011 05:50 AM PST A roadmap that describes Microsoft's plans for Windows Phone updates over the next year or so has made its way to the internet. Google reports 3.7 million Android activations over Christmas weekend Posted: 28 Dec 2011 05:15 AM PST According to Andy Rubin, head of the Android team at Google, Google's mobile operating system had quite the holiday this past weekend, as 3.7 million new devices were activated over the span of two days. The activations were recorded on December 24 and 25, corresponding to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Western cultures. Prior to this, Rubin had recently announced that Android activations were, on average, in the neighborhood of 700,000 per day, so the holiday weekend was running at 2.5 times that rate.
