Dell Streak 5 updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread

The Dell Streak 5, Dell's original smartphone/tablet hybrid, may be discontinued, but the company is doing good to support its customers, as it has just released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the 5-inch devices. We will excuse the tardiness of the update since the Streak 5 is dead product. The update offers version 1.5.1 of Dell's Stage UI interface and version 2.27 of the Swype keyboard. C Spire picks up Motorola Milestone X2

C Spire Wireless has announced that is now offering the Motorola Milestone X2 smartphone. The Milestone X2 is a re-branded version of the DROID X2 that Verizon Wireless released earlier this year.

Republic Wireless drops fair use policy, goes totally unlimited

Republic Wireless made a commotion earlier this year when it announced that it would offer unlimited cellphone service for a mere $19 per month. The catch was that the unlimited portion was only if the user was making phone calls and using the internet while connected to a Wi-Fi network, and 3G services had a "fair use" policy that could result in termination of service if a user went over the undefined limit. Now, Republic is saying that it has dropped the fair use policy and will provide truly unlimited service.

RIM sued over use of BBM trademark

A Canadian broadcasting company has filed a lawsuit against RIM over the use of the BBM name for the BlackBerry Messenger service. The Bureau of Broadcast Management was established back in 1944, and it has been using BBM Canada for much of its existence.

Samsung withholds Android 4.0 ICS upgrade from Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab due to TouchWiz

Samsung has revealed some disheartening news for owners of the original Galaxy S smartphone and 7-inch Galaxy Tab tablet, as it will not be upgrading those devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Samsung cites hardware constraints paired with the necessity to include its custom TouchWiz interface as the reason why it will not be upgrading the smartphones and tablets.

FCC approves AT&T spectrum buy from Qualcomm

AT&T may have admitted defeat with regards to its efforts to purchase rival carrier T-Mobile earlier this week, but it does have one victory to celebrate. The Federal Communications Commission has approved AT&T's bid to purchase 700MHz spectrum licenses from Qualcomm, which it will use to expand its 4G LTE network.
