AT&T, Sprint to go to court after Justice Department's trial ends Posted: 06 Dec 2011 01:56 PM PST AT&T and Sprint have decided that they will wait until after the Justice Department's trial to head to court for their own case involving AT&T's proposed purchase of T-Mobile. While both carriers have agreed to wait until after the DoJ's case is resolved, they disagree as to how soon their trial should start. Sprint wants it to happen immediately after the DoJ's case, while AT&T would rather wait until the Justice Department comes down with a verdict. C Spire (formerly Cellular South) has also sued AT&T over the proposed merger, though it's arguments center around roaming costs and device pricing, while Sprint has focused mainly on device pricing in its complaints. The Justice Department's trial is set to begin on February 13, 2012, while the other cases have yet to be scheduled. Read the full story here. |

Verizon now points to hardware as the reason for no Google Wallet in Galaxy Nexus Posted: 06 Dec 2011 11:43 AM PST Earlier today Verizon Wireless gave a statement concerning the lack of Google Wallet in the Galaxy Nexus that made it sound like security was the reason for its omittance. Consumer Reports ranks AT&T dead last in consumer satisfaction again Posted: 06 Dec 2011 11:17 AM PST Back-to-back wins! If AT&T considered getting dead last in Consumer Reports' annual consumer satisfaction survey a win, that is. We are thinking that it probably doesn't. Verizon Wireless and Sprint scored the highest in CR's survey, with T-Mobile taking the third place trophy. Interestingly enough, CR's electronics editor, Paul Reynolds, says that "Our survey indicates that subscribers to prepaid and smaller standard-service providers are happiest overall with their cell-phone service." He does point out that the limitations of pre-paid service and smaller carriers mean that they are not always the right fit for everyone. The survey polled 66,000 Consumer Reports readers and will be available in the January 2012 issue of the magazine. Read the full story here. |

Spectrum swap with Verizon nets Leap $100 million in straight cash Posted: 06 Dec 2011 08:07 AM PST More details have come to light concerning the proposed spectrum swap between Leap Wireless and Verizon Wireless that we reported on last week. Earlier it wasn't clear how much money was involved in the transaction, but now it seems that Leap stands to gain over $100 million in cash once everything is said and done. It will likely use these funds to build out its LTE network in Chicago and other markets over the next year. Or, it could just dive into a giant pile of cash and swim around in it Scrooge McDuck-style. The swap between the two carriers still has to gain approval from the Federal Communications Commission before it can be completed. Read the full story here. |

Windows Phone now supports Twitter images in People Hub Posted: 06 Dec 2011 07:20 AM PST It appears that Microsoft is doing some behind-the-scenes work on its People Hub in Windows Phone 7.5, as it now supports images from Twitter in the What's New stream. Prior to this, the What's New feed would display thumbnails for images uploaded to Windows Live or Facebook, but would merely display a link to the Twitter pictures. Now, images stored on Twitter's own image servers display a thumbnail right in the feed, providing a much better experience when scanning than before. It should be noted that this only seems to work with images uploaded to Twitter's own picture service, which is powered by Photobucket. Images stored on yFrog, TwitPic, or others will still just show up as links. It's nice to see Microsoft quietly improving things to make the user experience better on Windows Phone 7.5, and we hope that this activity will continue in the future. Read the full story here. |

Google Galaxy Nexus won't have Google Wallet thanks to Verizon Posted: 06 Dec 2011 06:38 AM PST Google's upcoming Galaxy Nexus smartphone for Verizon Wireless may be considered a "pure Google" experience by many, but that doesn't mean that Verizon didn't have some say as to what can and cannot be included on the device when it hits retail stores. Apparently, Verizon stepped in when the topic of Google Wallet was broached, likely to protect its own interests in the forthcoming ISIS mobile payment program that it is involved in.
