Google+ Android users can now start video Hangouts on the go

Google has released the promised software update for the Google+ app on Android that adds the ability create video Hangouts when on the go. The new version of the app also features a new photo album design, icons to show which photos have already been uploaded to Google+, people suggestions when composing a Messenger conversation, the ability to have one-on-one Messenger conversations, and various bug fixes. The new Google+ for Android app is free and available from the Android Market now. Google has said that the new features will be headed to the iOS version of Google+ in the near future.

HTC claims to have solution for infringed Apple patents

Just this evening the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled that HTC was in violation of one of Apple's patents, and as a result set a ban on the import of HTC devices into the country, which is due to begin next April. HTC has responded to the decision, and claims that it has a workaround already for the infringed patents.

The U.S. International Trade Commission has ruled that HTC is indeed in violation of Apple's smartphone patents, and has issued a ban on the importation of certain HTC products that is due to take effect next year.

Nokia says next software update for Lumia 800 will address new battery concerns

Nokia has announced that the forthcoming software update for the Lumia 800 that is due to arrive early next year will include a fix for recent battery life issues cited by users. This is the second software update issued for the Lumia 800, with the first one being distributed earlier this month. Users have reported that the Lumia 800 is reporting less battery life than it should be, and Nokia confirms that this is indeed the case. Nokia does note that there is nothing wrong with the battery itself, and the problem can be addressed with a software update. Also coming with the update are more performance enhancements for the Lumia 800. Nokia says the update is on track for an early 2012 release, and that the battery issue does not affect the Lumia 710.

Verizon outs details of upcoming DROID RAZR software update

Verizon Wireless has released the details of an upcoming software update for the Motorola DROID RAZR that addresses a number of connectivity and camera issues. The update is said to offer improved 3G and 4G connectivity, improved camera quality, and better stability across a number of core apps. The update is expected to begin rolling out to users in the near future and will be installable over-the-air.

Verizon aware of Galaxy Nexus reception issue, is working on a fix

According to a tweet from Verizon Wireless' official support Twitter account, the carrier is aware of reception issues with Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Nexus, and that a software fix is in the works. "The signal strength issue is currently being investigated. We don't have an ETA, but a software update is being developed." We've experienced the issue first hand while testing the LTE-capable phone for our upcoming review, and have seen the phone have serious data speed issues when other devices, such as Motorola's DROID RAZR, have had no problem.

Apple releases new build of iOS 5.0.1 to address iPhone 4S micro-SIM issues

Apple has released a new version of its iOS 5 operating system that is designed to specifically address an issue with micro-SIM cards in the iPhone 4S. The new build is labeled the same as the iOS 5.0.1 version that was released last month, and is only available as a restore option for those who have had "No SIM card installed" and "No service" errors when in a good coverage area. It will not be delivered over the air to all users like the previous version was. Apparently, there is also new access to the iPhone's file system with this particular build of iOS 5.0.1, and some speculate that it could result in new ways of hacking the Siri voice assistant system. Those that have had issues with their SIM cards can plug their iPhone 4S smartphones into iTunes and perform a full wipe and restore to upgrade now, after backing everything up, of course.

The NFC Forum has released a guide for manufacturers and developers that goes into detail the processes required to pair Bluetooth devices using NFC technology. Though the ability to pair Bluetooth accessories with NFC has been around for quite some time, Nokia is the only manufacturer who has yet to take advantage of it.

Here's the last part of our initial video look at the new Google Galaxy Nexus for Verizon Wireless. The Samsung-built 4G LTE smartphone features a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD 720p resolution touchscreen and is the first device on the market to run Google's new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Google sued by British Telecom over six patents related to Android

British Telecom, also known as simply BT, has filed a lawsuit against Google in a U.S. district court claiming that Google has violated six of its patents with the Android operating system. BT is looking for both damages and an injunction against Google, and its filing suggests that Google refused to license the patents in question for use in the Android operating system.
