Windows Phone 7.5 comes to AT&T's Dell Venue Pro

According to the Windows Phone Blog, Windows Phone 7.5 is now rolling out to users of AT&T's Dell Venue Pro smartphone. Windows Phone 7.5 brings a number of new features to Microsoft's operating system that include multitasking, Live Tiles for third-party apps, and front-facing camera support.

Apple rumored to release LTE iPhone, iPad in Japan next year

According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei Business, Apple and Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo will release a version of the iPad next summer that will come with LTE connectivity on board, with an LTE version of the iPhone to be released in the fall. Apple has said in the past that it was not yet willing to make the design compromises necessary to incorporate LTE technology into its mobile devices, but perhaps LTE chipsets have progressed to the point where Apple is comfortable releasing an LTE iPhone or iPad.

RIM adds BlackBerry App World content rating system

RIM has announced it has added a content rating system for its BlackBerry App World based on consumer, carrier, and developer feedback. The ratings systems help with parental controls on apps and will be rated according to G (general) or T (teen). AT&T, Deutsche Telekom have joint venture back-up plan if T-Mobile acquisition fails

AT&T and Deutsche Telekom may have another trick up their sleeves if the proposed purchase of T-Mobile USA by AT&T doesn't make it past government regulators. According to The Wall Street Journal, the two companies have discussed a fall-back plan to create a joint venture if the purchase doesn't happen.

Evernote adds note templates, pinning to Windows Phone app

Evernote has released an update for the Windows Phone version of its mobile app that adds a number of new features that take advantage of Microsoft's unique interface. The new version offers note templates and the ability to pin specific notes, app features, or notebooks to the homescreen for quick access. There are also improvements to text editing and more supported languages, including Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Dutch, and Polish. Finally, Evernote has added background note syncing over Wi-Fi, integration with Windows Phone search, and the ability to share notes to Facebook, Twitter, and Windows Live. The new Evernote for Windows Phone can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace now.

AT&T complains about public release of FCC report

AT&T has issued a statement about the Federal Communications Commission report on its proposed purchase of T-Mobile that was released to the public and then later withdrawn. The FCC had pointed out many inconsistencies and faults with AT&T's proposal, which apparently did not sit well with the carrier.

Box giving 50GB of free online storage to Sony Ericsson, LG Android phone users

Not playing favorites, Box has finally extended its 50GB of free online storage that it has given to HP TouchPad owners, BlackBerry PlayBook users, and iPhone and iPad owners to Android devices. Sprint beefs up network to handle iPhone 4S traffic

Ever since the Apple iPhone 4S was released for Sprint about six weeks ago, users have been complaining of poor data performance and slow network speeds. This was in spite of Sprint's claims that its 3G network was robust enough to handle the onslaught of data traffic that would come when it started carrying the iPhone. Now, Sprint says that it has completed "network enhancements" that are designed to improve data speeds in response to the user complaints.

HP CEO Whitman to make decision on webOS future in next two weeks

Ever since HP decided to axe webOS hardware back in August, the fate of the webOS software division and the future of the platform has been up in the air. The situation was exacerbated when HP outed Leo Apotheker, the CEO that made the decision to kill the hardware, and brought in new CEO Meg Whitman. Whitman says a decision will be made within the next two weeks.

Verizon, Leap Wireless apply for spectrum swap

Verizon Wireless and Leap Wireless, parent of Cricket, have applied for a significant exchange of spectrum between the two companies. The spectrum swap, if approved by the Federal Communications Commission, would give Leap the ability to launch 4G LTE service in the Chicago area, while allowing Verizon to strengthen its 3G CDMA and 4G LTE coverage in other parts of the country.

A new report on the growing Near Field Communications market points to smart tags and marketing posters to be the areas of largest growth outside of mobile payment systems. The report compiled by ABI Research says that this area of the NFC market could be as large as $298 million by 2016.

Amazon pushes software update to Kindle Fire, provides opaque details

Last night Amazon started delivering a software update to the Kindle Fire tablet that upgraded the system software to version 6.2. Chances are, if you have a Kindle Fire and it has been hooked up to a Wi-Fi network, the update has already downloaded and installed for you automatically. Amazon isn't saying much about what the update actually offers, other than it "provides improvements to the operation of your Kindle Fire." Those that have yet to receive the update can head over to the source link for instructions on how to download and install it manually.

Sony Ericsson sneaks WebGL support into Xperia software update

Sony Ericsson has been diligently updating its 2011 line of Xperia smartphones with new software that includes Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and the latest versions of Sony Ericsson's user interface. While the company didn't initially admit it, it also baked in support for the WebGL codec with the updates, bringing 3D graphics and visuals to the web browser without the need for additional plugins.

Samsung gets Galaxy Tab ban overturned in Australia in rare defeat for Apple

Samsung has apparently garnered a rare victory in its fight against Apple in courts across the world, as an Australian court has repealed the ban on sales of the Galxay Tab 10.1 in the country. The injunction, which was initially granted by a lower court, was unanimously overturned by a federal court.
