Google Voice for the iPhone updated with multi-recipient texting

Google Voice users on Android have enjoyed multi-recipient text messaging within the app for over a month now, but now Google has finally updated the iPhone version of the app to include it as well. Like the Android implementation, the multi-recipient texting feature sports auto-completion of user names. Google has also improved the text entry box with multi-line support and a character counter. There is a new 1-touch copy/paste feature within the dialer, and the app now has improved Sprint integration for those that are using Sprint iPhones with their Google Voice number. Google Voice for the iPhone is free and available in the iTunes App Store now.

LightSquared demands that FCC recognize its rights to use its spectrum

LightSquared has petitioned the Federal Communications Commission to allow it to use the spectrum that it owns for an LTE network, despite the various interference concerns that have been raised. LightSquared contends that the GPS industry is at fault for the interference, and thus it deserves no protection from the government.

Google halts Nexus S Android 4.0 ICS upgrade rollout

Google has apparently put the roll-out of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the Nexus S smartphone on ice for the time being, while it monitors feedback from users on it. There have been scattered reports that the update has caused battery life concerns and performance issues with the Nexus S (though we have not seen any on our updated unit), and this is likely the reason why Google has paused the update process for now. Google has not provided a time when it expects the upgrade to start flowing out to users once again.

Apple tells Australian court again that Samsung violated its design patents

Apple has filed another complaint with Australian courts stating that Samsung is in violation of 10 of its design patents. This move follows the court's decision from earlier this month that allowed the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet to go on sale in the country.

Evernote for iOS updated with notebook sharing

Evernote has updated its app for iOS to add the notebook sharing feature that Android users have enjoyed since last month. Prior to this, it was only possible to share individual notes with others. Users can also manage the sharing levels of notebooks within the app, and stop sharing them completely if they wish. Evernote says that it has also made performance enhancements throughout the app. Evernote for iOS is free and available in the iTunes App Store now.

Super Bowl XLVI will be streamed to Verizon Android smartphones

The NFL has revealed that, for the first time ever, the Super Bowl will be streamed to the internet and that it will also be available to watch on the NFL Mobile app for Verizon Wireless Android smartphones. Users will be able to access multiple camera angles, live statistics, and in-game highlights. It is not clear if the important stuff (read: the commercials) will be available through the NFL Mobile app or not.

Nuance gives up on suing Vlingo; just buys it instead

Nuance Communications has announced that it will purchase Vlingo, another voice-to-text company. Nuance will integrate Vlingo's team into its research and development arm, and plans to use them to develop "next generation natural language interfaces." The terms of the deal were not disclosed, nor was it announced when it is expected to be finalized. Nuance and Vlingo have had a tenuous relationship in the past, with both companies filing lawsuits against the other at times. Nuance is most notably known for its Dragon Go software and the fact that it is behind Apple's Siri virtual assistant on the iPhone 4S. Nuance also purchased Swype earlier this year. Vlingo makes an Android voice recognition app that is available in the Android Market and comes pre-installed on select Samsung smartphones.

RIM has released a new version of the Facebook app for its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet that adds some much-requested features. Version 2.1 of the app now offers full access to Facebook Groups and better access to other users' photos and videos on their profiles.
