The FCC held a workshop yesterday to discuss how devices will be able to work on the various bands of 700MHz spectrum. Smaller regional carriers want the FCC to mandate the interoperability so that they won't get pinched out of roaming deals. There are three major bands of 700MHz spectrum in use and chipset maker Qualcomm claims that making radios that work on all the bands would be extremely complicated and take a long time to develop. The FCC has not yet released its decision on the matter.
