Android Market now has opt-out for ad targeting Posted: 18 Apr 2011 05:25 AM PDT Google has added the option to opt-out of targeted advertising within the newest version of its Android Market, for both smartphones and tablets. Under the preferences section, users can un-check a box that allows Google's AdMob service to learn your interests and preferences, with which the ad platform can then target ads towards you. This will not remove ads from applications, it will just remove the personalization of the advertisements. Read the full story here. |
LG Quantum, Samsung Focus have WP7 update scheduled Posted: 18 Apr 2011 05:04 AM PDT Microsoft has announced that the LG Quantum and Samsung Focus, two Windows Phone 7 handsets on AT&T, have been scheduled to receive the update to Windows Phone 7 that includes copy and paste support among other enhancements. WP7 phones on AT&T have been behind phones on other carriers in receiving the update that was originally expected to appear in March. The HTC Surround, another WP7 phone on AT&T, has yet to be scheduled for the update. The Quantum and the Focus are also receiving support for AT&T's proprietary address book backup system and the WISPr protocol, which allows the phone to automatically switch its data connection to an AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot when in range. Gingerbread update for European Samsung Galaxy S phones rolling out Posted: 18 Apr 2011 01:25 AM PDT Samsung has started distributing the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Galaxy S smartphone to European customers in Holland, Germany, and the Nordic countries. Users will have to use the Samsung Kies updating utility on their PCs to install the new firmware. The rest of Europe is expected to receive the update soon. Read the full story here. |

Sanyo Zio Android smartphone source code released Posted: 17 Apr 2011 02:21 PM PDT After being on the market since October of last year, the Sanyo Zio for Sprint has finally had its source code let out into the wild. Built by Kyocera, the Zio is a budget-priced Android 2.1 Eclair handset with a 600MHz processor and a 3.5-inch touchscreen. Now that the source code has been released, developers may be able to produce custom ROMs for the Zio to enhance the experience for advanced users. Kyocera Echo dual-touchscreen Android smartphone now available for $199.99 Posted: 17 Apr 2011 07:39 AM PDT After giving advance access to Premiere members, Sprint has now released the Kyocera Echo for purchase by the general public. The world's first dual-touchscreen Android smartphone costs $199.99 with a new two-year agreement. The Echo is powered by a 1GHz processor and each screen is 3.5 inches in size and 800 x 480 pixels in resolution. Combined in tablet mode, the two screens can offer a 960 x 800 display.
