Next version of WP7 to be 7.5 says Microsoft

Microsoft has let out that the Mango update due later this year for Windows Phone 7 will bring with it a new name for the OS: Windows Phone 7.5. The new version will bring many improvements to the platform, such as multitasking for third party applications and the new Internet Explorer 9 for mobile. We think that Microsoft should just call it Windows Phone and avoid the confusion associated with version numbers, but apparently Microsoft doesn't agree.

Apple iTunes cloud streaming gets approval from Warner Music Group

Amazon may have been the first big music retailer to deploy a cloud based music service, but Apple may be still one step ahead of Google in releasing its own. Reports have come out that Warner Music Group has approved Apple's streaming music plans for iTunes.

HTC Incredible S enjoys serving of Gingerbread in Italy

It looks like Italian owners of HTC's Incredible S smartphone are the first ones to enjoy the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update that had been promised at the phone's launch. Users in Italy have been receiving over-the-air notifications that the update is available and have successfully update their phones. With Italy already having access to the updated software, the rest of Europe can't be too far behind.

Apple iBooks updated for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch

Apple has released an update for its native ebook reader and store, iBooks, for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The update includes numerous performance fixes and stability enhancements. Apple has fixed a bug where an ebook would open with an unexpected font, and has resolved issues with video playback in enhanced books in the iBook store. Version 1.2.2 of iBooks is free and available in the iTunes App Store now.

T-Mobile already testing Android Gingerbread update for G2x

T-Mobile USA's Twitter account has said that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the T-Mobile G2x (LG Optimus 2X) will be here "sooner than you'd expect." The company noted that it was already testing Gingerbread on the G2x before the phone was even launched. An Android Gingerbread update would give the G2x a fresher user interface than the rather bare bones Android 2.2 Froyo build it shipped with, as seen in our G2x review.

White iPhone 4 with T-Mobile USA 3G support spotted

BGR.com has posted photos of what appears to be a prototype white Apple iPhone 4 with T-Mobile USA 3G support, as noted by the "T-Mobile" and "3G" text at the top of the phone's display. BGR notes that the front face of the device appears to have been tweaked a bit from earlier white prototypes. BGR suggests that this could just be a test device that would allow Apple to test compatibility with T-Mobile 3G bands for some future model, due to it being so late in the iPhone 4's life cycle. We would add that Apple could choose to offer an older iPhone 4-based model to T-Mobile once a newer iPhone 4s/5 model was made available to AT&T and Verizon.

HTC Flyer tablet up for pre-sale at Best Buy on April 25

Best Buy has announced that it will put the upcoming HTC Flyer Android tablet up for pre-sale starting on April 25. Interested customers can head to Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores on that date and put down $499 to be among the first to have HTC's latest tablet. The Flyer is a 7-inch tablet with a 1.5GHz processor. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC's custom Sense interface that has been specifically designed for tablets. The Flyer has a unique, pen-based interface option called Scribe. Best Buy did not say when the Flyer will be actually be available, only alluding to "later this spring."

EA Easter treats: almost 30 iOS games on sale for $0.99

EA is getting into some holiday spirit this weekend by putting almost 30 of its most popular iOS games on sale for only $0.99. Popular titles such as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Tetris, Monopoly, Dead Space, and the Sims 3 are included, along with many more. Android users are not totally left out, getting special sale prices on games for their platform - though not the wide assortment of $0.99 titles.
