iTunes 10.2.2 update fixes syncing issues with iPhone, iPad Posted: 18 Apr 2011 02:49 PM PDT Apple has released version 10.2.2 of iTunes to resolve some issues users have had syncing their iOS devices. The update fixes an issue that leaves the iPad unresponsive while syncing, and fixes a problem that cause photo syncing to take longer than it should on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Apple also claims improved stability and performance with the update. Users can download the update directly from Apple's website or use the Software Update utility in iTunes. EU to allow 4G over Europe's GSM spectrum Posted: 18 Apr 2011 11:12 AM PDT Europe's governing European Commission has ruled that all of the European Union's member states must pass laws that make it possible for 4G wireless technologies such as LTE and WiMAX to operate on the 900MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands currently in use by European GSM networks. The EC is requiring that countries allow 4G on these frequency bands by the end of this year. The ruling is part of the EU's plan to make wireless broadband data available to all of its citizens. Canadian wireless carrier Rogers has confirmed that these devices will be available on April 28. We've also confirmed that Best Buy Canada has opened up its pre-order for both devices. HTC Droid Incredible 2 spotted on Verizon's website Posted: 18 Apr 2011 10:01 AM PDT The as-yet-unannounced sequel to last year's Droid Incredible Android smartphone, the Droid Incredible 2 by HTC, made a brief appearance on Verizon Wireless' website. Not many details were released about the device, other than it will sport an 8 megapixel camera and a 1GHz processor. Apple transforms forums into Apple Support Communities Posted: 18 Apr 2011 09:29 AM PDT Last year, Apple announced that its support forums would be transformed into a social-based site called Apple Support Communities, and after going silent on the matter for the past seven months, Apple Support Communities site went live Saturday. While the site's organization remains similar to Apple's original support forums, the layout has changed a bit. Each device or Apple product will not be represented by a community, within which users can discuss problems or concerns. Each page supports home pages, personal RSS feeds, subscriptions and notifications, and status information regarding discussions and user presence on the site. iPhone 4 poised to be most popular camera on Flickr Posted: 18 Apr 2011 09:19 AM PDT Looks like the iPhone 4 is poised to take the number 1 spot as Flickr users' most-used camera, beating out all cameras but Nikon's D90 model, based on graphs provided by Flickr. According to the photo-social site, last year's users uploaded around 130 million photos to the site each month. The graphs show that digital SLR cameras are still being used pretty regularly by Flickr users. However, the iPhone 4 has climbed through the ranks to sit just behind the $900 Nikon D90. SLRs are safe for now (unless reports that the next iPhone will support an 8 megapixel Sony camera come true), but point-and-shoot cameras will have a tough hill to climb. With quality cameras equipped on just about every smartphone that comes to market, it's no wonder people are leaving their point-and-shoot cameras at home. Android gets Grooveshark app back via sideload Posted: 18 Apr 2011 08:59 AM PDT After Google pulled the Grooveshark app from the Android Market citing violations of the Market's policies (and after pressure from the music industry), Android users who wanted to use the controversial streaming music service have been left out in the cold. To remedy the situation, Grooveshark has made its app available to download outside of the Android Market. BlackBerry PlayBook gets creative launch from Sears Posted: 18 Apr 2011 08:48 AM PDT The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, which is scheduled to be released for sale tomorrow, will be offered with special financing and return policy options by Sears Canada. Sears will allow buyers to finance the PlayBook for 90 days without any interest, and grants a 15-day hassle-free return period if the customer is not satisfied with their purchase. Sears is also setting up a "BlackBerry lounge" where users can hang out and play with the new tablet before purchase. The note, which came through the company's Twitter account, read "we've got a mess of new cities and towns launching on Thursday" and didn't provide any more specifics than that. Some markets, at least, appear to have demo days of the new service running.
