Once downloaded to your PC, the software synchronizes your Outlook contacts and calendar, Outlook Express contacts, and the bookmarks saved in your browser of choice between your home PC and your smartphone. HTC Sync also gives users the ability to install third-party Android apps on the phone. Syncing through HTC's new software also brings photos, videos, documents, songs, and playlists from the desktop or laptop straight to the user's phone. Google found guilty of Linux patent infringement; Android threatened Posted: 22 Apr 2011 08:08 AM PDT A Texas jury just found Google guilty of patent infringement with regard to the Linux kernel, for which the search giant has been fined $5 million. The software in question is used not only by Google's server platforms, but may also extend to its Android smartphone operating system. This may have great implications for Android's openness. "The amount of the fine is not what makes this an important issue," said intellectual property activist Florian Mueller. "The implication here is really that there is a huge number of Linux users who will be required to pay royalties if this patent holder knocks on their doors in the US. This is definitely a major impediment to the growth of Linux and makes companies, including Google, that relay on open source code particularly vulnerable to patent threats," Mueller said. Sprint Nexus S 4G now available for purchase from Best Buy Posted: 22 Apr 2011 07:34 AM PDT Best Buy is now offering the Google Nexus S 4G smartphone for Sprint by Samsung for purchase on its website. The phone is priced at $199.99 with a new two-year service agreement but the page lists no shipping date. The Nexus S 4G smartphone offers a massive 4-inch Super AMOLED screen and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Verizon HTC ThunderBolt falls to $130 at Amazon Posted: 22 Apr 2011 06:12 AM PDT Amazon is offering a tempting deal for new Verizon Wireless customers on the HTC ThunderBolt, the carrier's first LTE smartphone. Normally priced at $250 with a new two-year agreement, Amazon is selling it for $130 for new Verizon customers but the deal ends midnight Pacific Time on Monday. It should be noted that Amazon requires a secondary ETF in addition to Verizon's should you cancel your plan before your contract commitment is up.
