Twitter stung by roundabout class action suit

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 11:16 AM PDT

Twitter was hit with a somewhat strange class action lawsuit by two California residents by the names of Drew Moss and Sahar Maleksaeedi. Basically, the two men are suing Twitter because they received a confirmatory SMS message from Twitter after sending a message with the command "STOP," which is the standard command to stop SMS notifications from a company or service. The plaintiffs claim that the confirmation message came after express or implied consent to receive text message notification to their phones had been withdrawn, which not only cost them incoming message charges, but also violates the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991. According to court documents, Moss and Maleksaeedi are asking for up to $1,500 in damages for each message that allegedly violated the TCPA.

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 10:57 AM PDT

Adobe Systems today released the Flash Player 10.2 update for Android Honeycomb tablets, available for download in the Android Market. The update should bring along some big enhancements to Honeycomb, including hardware accelerated video and enhanced browser integration. Don't get too excited just yet, though. Unfortunately, even the most up-to-date tablets (those with Android 3.0.1) won't get to experience the new enhancements until their devices receive an update to Android 3.1, which Adobe mentioned on the Flash app page. The developer later changed the text to say "requires an upcoming release of Android 3." No word, of course, on when we can expect to see that, but next week's Google I/O event is a possibility.

"There are now over 200 different tablets on the marketplace, only one of them is doing really well," said Elop. "And, my challenge to the team is I don't want to be the 201st tablet on the market that you can't tell from all of the others. We have to take a uniquely Nokia perspective." Motorola XOOM, Bionic running late for LTE upgrade, launch

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 07:28 AM PDT

With the release of Motorola's quarterly financial report, a few bits of sad news came with regards to the Motorola XOOM tablet and the to-be-released DROID Bionic smartphone. Unfortunately, the promised upgrade to 4G LTE will not be coming to the XOOM until summer, according to Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha. To add to that disappointment, the Bionic won't be released until then, either. Jha was not specific in his explanation for the delay, other than the fact that whatever "issue" has arisen has affected both devices. It's possible that the company is simply waiting for Verizon Wireless' LTE rollout to progress further, but in any case, this means that XOOM owners and future Bionic owners will have a nice little test in patience. When we have specific dates for the LTE upgrade and Bionic release, we'll be sure to keep you posted.
