Nokia C5-03 now available in U.K. Posted: 19 Jan 2011 05:23 AM PST Today Nokia announced that its C5-03 is now available for order in the United Kingdom. The C5-03 offers a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, a 5MP camera, and more. It also offers integration with Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks and supports Nokia's free turn-by-turn navigation service. The Nokia C5-03 is available for GBP189 ($302). LG Ally Android 2.2 Froyo update rolling out now Posted: 19 Jan 2011 05:02 AM PST Verizon Wireless has announced that it is updating the LG Ally with Android 2.2 Froyo. The update should add improved security options, enhanced browser performance for faster loading of JavaScript pages, enhanced screen rotation app compatibility, and more. It also includes a new LG Social Application, which was previously titled "Socialite." LG Ally owners will be notified when the update is available. Starbucks Card Mobile payments now accepted nationwide Posted: 19 Jan 2011 04:52 AM PST Today Starbucks announced that all of its stores nationwide, nearly 6,800 locations in total, will all accept its Starbucks Card Mobile payment option. Starbucks Card Mobile is an application for BlackBerry and iPhone smartphones that displays a 2D barcode which can be scanned for payment. Users can also refill their Starbucks Card using their phones. The program has been in a test phase in San Francisco, Seattle, and New York. Starbucks says an Android app is in the works. Apple reports record iPhone, iPad sales during Q1 2011 earnings Posted: 18 Jan 2011 01:52 PM PST Today Apple reported its results for the first fiscal quarter of 2011. The firm noted record iPhone and iPad sales and said that its revenues for the quarter ($26.74 billion) were its highest ever. Verizon offers $200 to iPhone 4 buyers who recently upgraded Posted: 18 Jan 2011 01:33 PM PST Verizon Wireless is stating on its Frequently Asked Questions page that any current Verizon customer who purchased and activated a new smartphone, feature phone, or certified pre-owned phone between 11/26/2010 and 01/10/2011 is eligible to receive a $200 Visa debit card if they purchase an iPhone 4 at full retail price. Customers can take advantage of this deal before 02/28/2011 and must return their existing phone. Microsoft OneNote Mobile launches for Apple iPhone Posted: 18 Jan 2011 12:15 PM PST Today Microsoft announced that its OneNote application is now available for the iPhone. OneNote Mobile is Microsoft's first official Office application on Apple's iOS platform. OneNote Mobile allows users to take notes and include photos, text, and checklists in each note. On the desktop side, OneNote can sync with Windows Live SkyDrive and documents can also be accessed via Microsoft's Office Web Apps website from your smartphone or computer. Verizon officially ends New Every Two upgrade program Posted: 18 Jan 2011 12:00 PM PST As expected, today Verizon Wireless officially confirmed that it will stop offering its "New Every Two" upgrade program to new lines of service. Those who are currently enrolled with be able to benefit from the deal one more time for up to six months after fulfilling 20 months of a two-year term. Nokia starts E7 preorders in Finland, Sweden Posted: 18 Jan 2011 11:50 AM PST Today Nokia announced that pre-orders for its E7 Symbian^3 powered smartphone are beginning in Sweden and Finland today. The company said via its Twitter account that other markets will follow soon. The E7 has a full QWERTY keyboard, and as such, has been marketed as a business smartphone. It offers a 4-inch touchscreen AMOLED display with a 640 x 360 pixel resolution. It also packs in an 8MP camera, GPS, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and more. Read the full story here. |
Netflix removes 'add to DVD queue' option on streaming devices Posted: 18 Jan 2011 11:38 AM PST Netflix has announced that it has removed its 'Add to DVD Queue' option from streaming devices that use its 'Watch Instantly' functionality. Netflix's director of product management, Jamie Odell, said that the company is removing the option so the company can concentrate on offering titles that are available instantly and not tie up resources that are used to improve overall streaming functionality. New York Times development team working on buggy iPhone app Posted: 18 Jan 2011 07:42 AM PST The New York Times is aware of the bugs in its iPhone app and is working to get them fixed. A spokesperson for the New York Times told Reuters that the NYT "development team is working hard to get [the bugs] resolved as quickly as possible. In the meantime, [the NYT] customer care has been briefed and they are actively helping users to troubleshoot the issue." Two hackers charged over AT&T Apple iPad security breach Posted: 18 Jan 2011 07:31 AM PST Two hackers, Daniel Spitler and Andrew Auernheimer, are being charged with one count of fraud and a count of conspiracy to access a computer without authorization, each, for hacking and accessing private data from nearly 120,000 iPad devices on AT&T's network earlier this year. Spirtler will appear in a federal court in Newark, NJ today and Auernheimer is will appear in a court in Arkansas. The two hackers called themselves "Goatse Security," and were able to grab personal information on government employees as well as U.S. citizens when they hacked the iPads in June 2010. FBI to announce criminal charges for iPad data theft case today Posted: 18 Jan 2011 06:41 AM PST The FBI and the U.S. attorney for the U.S. District of New Jersey are going to hold a press conference today to discuss criminal charges related to the theft of personal information from about 120,000 iPad users. Back in June of 2010, a group of hackers called "Goatse Security," obtained the email addresses and AT&T ICC-IDS of what was estimated to be 114,000 Apple iPad customers. Employees from NASA, the FAA, the U.S. District of Justice, and the Department of Defense were among those whose personal information was obtained. We'll keep you updated after the press conference. Facebook temporarily disabling phone number and address sharing feature Posted: 18 Jan 2011 06:08 AM PST Today Facebook announced that it is going to temporarily disable a feature that shared user phone numbers and address information with external websites. The feature made it easier for a user to check-out on a shopping site, for example, after accessing the site through Facebook. Facebook said its users responded and asked Facebook to make it more clear to users when they are granting access to this data. Facebook is taking the feature offline while it works on these changes and says that it should be re-enabling the feature in the next few weeks. Read the full story here. |

Sprint to raise new smartphone data rates on January 30 Posted: 18 Jan 2011 05:29 AM PST Today Sprint announced that, beginning on January 30, it will raise the rates of its postpaid wireless data plans. Sprint will apply a $10 monthly "Premium Data" add-on charge to smartphone activations starting on January 30. The "Premium Data" charge was previously only applied to the HTC EVO 4G, EVO Shift 4G, and Epic 4G phones, Sprint's 4G WiMAX devices. Read the full story here. |
