ViewSonic to debut Android 4G tablet-phone at CES

Accoridng to Dow Jones Newswires, Viewsonic is preparing to launch a 4-inch Android tablet during the Consumer Electronics Show next week. ViewSonic's tablet is reportedly run on a 4G network and will also be able to place phone calls. Verizon Wireless recently launched its 4G LTE network, Sprint offers a 4G WiMAX network, and T-Mobile also markets its HSPA+ 4G network. It's unclear which carrier the device will launch on. Economic Times says India's government to test BlackBerry snooping

The Economics Times is reiterating its statement today that India's interior ministry has requested a formal test of RIM's BlackBerry "cloud computing-based system," which will allow the government to intercept BlackBerry Messenger services. RIM said yesterday that providing access to all data flowing on its network in India was "false and technologically infeasible." RIM also said "there will be no change to the security model of BlackBerry Enterprise Service," in India.

Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0 leaves beta

Nokia's Ovi Suite 3.0 software is now out of beta. The application proides a new and improved home view that shows recommended apps, games, and music, as well as notifications from your phone> it also offers Ovi Music with full music playback controls, drag and drop music support, and more. Ovi Suite 3.0 should offer a faster and easier installation, improvements to Map views, and better stability and sync performance. It's available for free now.

China cracking down on illegal VoIP services

China's Ministry of Information recently passed around a circular that was calling for a stoppage of illegal internet telephone providers in China, more specifically, "on illegal VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) telephone services." The Ministry of Information did not name specific providers, but Reuters is speculating that Skype could be among those services deemed illegal in China. Skype provides low-cost international calling. It's likely that the ban is in an effort to protect China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile.
