Microsoft reiterates copy paste, CDMA coming to Windows Phone 7 Posted: 05 Jan 2011 07:35 PM PST During its keynote speech at CES in Las Vegas tonight, Microsoft restated that copy and paste functionality is soon to come to its Windows Phone 7 smartphones. The company also said that Windows Phone 7 has 100 new applications every 24 hours, on average, and that its platform will hit CDMA carriers like Sprint and Verizon the first half of this year. T-Mobile announces the 4G-enabled LG G-Slate, an Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet Posted: 05 Jan 2011 06:10 PM PST In a very brief and detail-light press release issued hot on the heels of Motorola's XOOM tablet announcement, LG and T-Mobile USA have officially announced the pending availability of their own Android 3.0 Honeycomb powered tablet computer: the LG G-Slate. T-Mobile expects to offer the tablet in "the coming months" and it will work on T-Mobile's 4G HSPA+ powered data network. No additional details or pricing information have been provided at this time, though we suspect we will learn more at T-Mobile's press event tomorrow at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Skype HD video calling was demonstrated on a prototype Android tablet, for example. NVIDIA used the SkypeKit API to develop it. The new store will be called Tegra Zone and will offer users the ability to find and download high quality games that are not found on Google's existing Android's app store. The dual-core based Tegra 2 is the first of its kind and offers lower power consumption on devices as well as faster imaging and hardware acceleration. NVIDIA's Tegra Zone will offer approximately five to ten titles on launch, including Dungeon Defender, Monster Madness, Fruit Ninja, Backbreaker THD, and Galaxy on Fire. Comcast app to deliver live TV to iPad Posted: 05 Jan 2011 12:20 PM PST Comcast will soon launch a new iPad application that will allow Comcast customers to stream on-demand television on their tablet. The app will first allow on-demand content only, Reuters is reporting, but Comcast also plans to allow users to watch live real-time content, such as television programs, in the future. The service will launch with 3,000 hours of viewable content at first and should be available in the next few weeks. Reuters also hinted that an Android application is in the works for tablets running that operating system. LG shows new glasses-free 3D mobile display Posted: 05 Jan 2011 12:10 PM PST Today LG unveiled a new 3D display for mobile phones that requires no special glasses to use. The display measures 4.3-inches in size and offers 480 x 800 pixel resolution, and LG says that the display is both bright and flicker free. LG states that the the slits used to ensure that each eye sees the different images required for the 3D effect are more precisely positioned on its new 3D mobile display than on previous displays based on similar technology. Casio shows Bluetooth Low Energy watch that connects to smartphones Posted: 05 Jan 2011 11:59 AM PST During CES in Las Vegas, Casio took the wraps off of a Bluetooth Low Energy watch. The watch, which is just a prototype for now, allows users to connect via Bluetooth to their mobile phones to keep atop of emails and phone calls. The BLE enabled watch uses the new low power consumption version of Bluetooth short-range wireless connectivity that is not currently supported by any shipping phones. Read the full story here. |

Qualcomm to buy Wi-Fi chip maker Atheros Posted: 05 Jan 2011 06:51 AM PST Today mobile chip maker Qualcomm announced that it has entered into an agreement to buy Atheros, a company known best for its Wi-Fi and other wireless related technologies. Qualcomm says that the purchase will help it expand beyond its core mobile technology markets.
