Steve Jobs takes medical leave from Apple Posted: 17 Jan 2011 04:32 PM PST In an email sent to Apple employees, Steve Jobs said that he asked the Apple board of directors for a medical leave of absence, to which it agreed. Apple App Store downloads to soon eclipse iTunes music downloads Posted: 17 Jan 2011 09:54 AM PST The number of Apple iOS applications downloaded from Apple's App Store is soon going to eclipse the number of downloads from Apple's own iTunes music store, even though the iTunes music store had a 3.5 year head start. Apple's iTunes stort hit 10 billion downloads after 67 months, while it seems quite possible that Apple's App Store will hit 10 billion this month - only 31 months after its launch (see Apple's countdown here). According to analysis site Asymco, more than 60 applications have been downloaded from the App Store for each Apple iOS device that has been sold, on average. You'll find more detailed information on the App Store's growth in the full Asymco post, linked below. Read the full story here. |
Apple asks feds to clamp down on iPhone jailbreaking Posted: 17 Jan 2011 07:14 AM PST According to NBC, Apple is asking the federal government to crack down on the jailbreaking of Apple's iOS products, such as the iPhone. According to NBC, Apple told the U.S. Copyright Office that jailbreak techniques modify Apple's copyrighted OS and bootloader are an "infringement of the copyrights in those programs." It is worth noting that the NBC story seems to confuse unlocking a phone for use on another carrier as being part of jailbreaking, which is the separate process of allowing unapproved applications to run on the device.
