RadioShack to lose more than 400 Sam's Club kiosk locations

RadioShack 's contract to sell cellphones and other mobile services through Wal-Mart's Sam's Club stores will soon expire, The Wall Street Journal is reporting. As such, RadioShack will lose more than 400 of its in-store kiosks. RadioShack has said it will increase the number of kiosks it offers in Target Stores instead, but expects that part of its business to decline by "10 million to 15 million this year," because of its move from Sam's Club to Target, the WSJ said.

Angry Birds Free for iPhone launches with 12 new levels

Rovio has launched a new "Angry Birds Free" version of its popular Angry Birds game for iOS devices. The Free version is different from the Lite version, which has been available for some time now. It provides 12 new Angry Birds levels, and also integrates with Apple's Game Center. You can download it from the iTunes App Store now.

Sprint slashes price on Samsung Epic 4G WiMAX smartphone

The Android powered Samsung Epic 4G has received a price cut, down to $199.99 with a new two year service agreement or eligible upgrade. The Epic offers 4G connectivity as well as Wi-Fi for data and features a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display. A full slide out QWERTY keyboard is also found on board for those that prefer the older method of text input. Other features of note include a user facing camera for video chatting, a 5mp camera for 720p HD video recording, a speedy 1GHz processor, and Google's Android operating system. Google admits to Nexus S call reboot bug

Google has acknowledged that there is a problem with its Android 2.3 Gingerbread powered smartphone, the Nexus S. The problem has to do with the phone randomly rebooting during calls, and Google recently said that it has been able to reproduce the problem and is investigating it with Samsung. We've yet to see the problem on either of the Nexus S devices we have access to.

Best Buy announces Buy Back Program

Today Best Buy officially announced its new Buy Back Program, an initiative that will provide customers with the option to return their gadgets for a Best Buy Gift card. In order to use the deal, however, customers must pay to take part in the Buy Back Program when they purchase a new product.

HTC DROID Incredible stops a bullet

A valet worker at a club in Atlanta was recently shot after two men outside the club got into a gunfight. A bullet hit the battery of an HTC DROID Incredible smartphone in his pocket, saving his life. Read on for more, including a video from the AP.

T-Mobile aiming for under $100 for its Android smartphones

In an interview, T-Mobile USA CEO Philipp Humm said that the nation's number 4 carrier intends to drive down the prices of its future Android powered smartphones, aiming at prices under $100. "We are working with our vendors on this one to drive the price of smartphones down" Humm said. The company already offers some feature rich Android smartphones for less than $100, including LG's Optimus T. With the iPhone looming large on the two largest carriers in the country, T-Mobile wants to be viewed as the value play, it seems.

Dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon powered smartphones coming in 2011

Qualcomm has said that 4G smartphones and tablets powered by its dual-core Snapdragon processor will be available on the market this year, Fierce Wireless is reporting. Qualcomm said that the chips will run Android-powered tablets from Acer, Compal, and Pantech, as well as smartphones. Qualcomm didn't say which companies will introduce the smartphones, but HTC, LG, Acer, Toshiba, and others have used its single core Snapdragon processors in their devices. Qualcomm announced a couple of dual-core processors in 2010. Its dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon chip began shipping in June 2010, and the dual-core 1.5GHz processors were expected to ship during the fourth quarter. In November 2010 Qualcomm announced the MSM8960 a dual-core Snapdragon chipset with 4G LTE support.

MetroPCS reports subscriber growth in Q4 2010

MetroPCS reported its earnings for the fourth quarter of 2010 today. The carrier announced that it ended the year with 8.1 million subscribers, which included 298,000 net additions during the quarter and 1.5 million new subscribers during the twelve months ended December 31, 2010. Churn for the quarter was 3.5 percent, a decrease from the 5.3 percent MetroPCS reported during the fourth quarter of 2009.

Windows Phone 7 on Verizon, Sprint by June 30

In an interview with the Seattle times, Aaron Woodman, director of mobile communications at Microsoft, said that Windows Phone 7 smartphones would be available on Verizon and Sprint by June 30, 2011. Woodman also said that features similar to those found in the KIN Studio, the web based service associated with Microsoft's failed KIN line of phones, would eventually be available for Windows Phone 7. KIN Studio provided an online repository for KIN photos, videos, and messages, and it was one of the few aspects of the KIN line of phones that was generally liked by the press.

The HTC EVO Shift 4G is now available from Sprint stores and on the Sprint website. The EVO Shift is the third 4G WiMAX phone to be offered by Sprint, and it features a full QWERTY keyboard, a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen, and a 5 megapixel camera that can record 720p HD videos. It is available now for $149.99 when picked up with a new 2 year agreement.

Apple killing iPhone restocking fee on January 11

According to 9to5 Mac, Apple will not charge its standard 10 percent iPhone restocking fee starting on January 11, when Verizon plans to announce its own iPhone during a press event in New York City. Engadget has also confirmed that Apple will not charge its 10 percent restocking fee on January 11. This would mean that anyone who has recently purchased an AT&T iPhone and would like to return it, would be able to do so without having to pay a charge.

Android 2.2 Froyo hitting myTouch 3G Fender Edition smartphone on Wednesday

T-Mobile has announced that it will continue to roll out Android 2.2 Froyo to myTouch 3G owners. While the update has already landed on the original myTouch 3G, it will also be pushed to the limited edition Fender version of the phone, as well as the myTouch 3G 3.5mm Jack version. T-Mobile said the update should land on Wednesday, January 12, and will offer new home screen features, Gmail enhancements, a full integrated Exchange client, a Faves gallery, and more.
