Google to push Android 2.3 Gingerbread to Nexus One in coming weeks

Google announced via Twitter that the newest version of its Android operating system, 2.3 Gingerbread, will be pushed out to Nexus One smartphone owners in the coming weeks. Currently Google only offers Gingerbread on the recently released Nexus S smartphone by Samsung.

Microsoft outs free Bing-sponsored iPhone, Android apps

Today Microsoft announced three new Bing sponsored applications. Two are for iOS devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, while a third is for Android smartphones. Snowboard Hero by Bing is a game that lets you compete as a snowboarding pro on the slopes. Powerboat Challenge by Bing is a game that lets you drive a powerboat on a river course to compete for money and boat upgrades. Holiday 100 by Bing is an Android application that provides top holiday songs, such as Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas is You." The songs can be streamed to your phone with album art, and it's available through January 2, 2011. The apps are free and are available in their respective platforms' app stores.

Apple iPhone 4 sold out in China

According to an analyst with Ticonderoga Securities who spoke to Fortune, Brian White, China has sold out of the iPhone 4. It is reportedly not available in Apple Stores, from China Unicom, or from resellers of the device. White estimates that China Unicom hasn't been able to fill up to one-third of the iPhone 4 orders due to shortages, and claims that the device is sold out for two months in the aforementioned stores. White said he believes that China is in the early stages of catching "Apple Fever." China Unicom began selling the iPhone 4 on September 16, and reportedly sold 100,000 units in just 4 days.

New iPhone app lets drivers report bad driving

A new iPhone application called DriveMeCrazy lets drivers report other drivers for bad driving. The reported information can then be sent to the DMV and to insurance companies. Its creator hopes the app will save lives in the future.

According to a leaked memo obtained by Engadget, Sam's Club will offer the iPhone 4 for just $147 during its holiday sale, which ends on Christmas Day. The iPhone 3GS is also reportedly on sale.

Motorola teases new tablet ahead of CES

Motorola just sent us a video teasing a Motorola tablet ahead of CES. The video shows a timeline of tablets, which starts with stone tablets from the beginning of time, moves past the Apple iPad and the Samsung Galaxy S, and ends with a sheet covering Motorola's upcoming tablet. Samsung reveals SCH-r710 Suede feature phone for Cricket

Foursquare updates iPhone app with photo, comment support

Today Foursquare officially announced a number of new features for its latest Foursquare iPhone client. Users will now be able to leave comments on friend's check-ins, add photos to their tips, and view a history of everywhere they have been. Photos on check-ins are only visible to friends, and Foursquare suggests turning on push notifications to be alerted of new comments. The application is available through iTunes now.

Verizon intros Mobile Email 4.0 for feature phones

Today Verizon Wireless released the latest version of its mobile email client for feature phones, Mobile Email 4.0. The software supports a push e-mail, Microsoft exchange email, and Outlook Calendar Sync. It also offers a new user interface that should look more sleek and make navigation around the app easier. Users will also be able to attach pictures from their My Pix folder on their memory card. Those who haven't already upgraded will receive an embedded SMS that will trigger the update.

AT&T to acquire spectrum from Qualcomm for 4G network

Today AT&T announced that it will purchase spectrum licenses in the lower 700MHz frequency band from Qualcomm for $1.925 billion. AT&T will use the spectrum to build out its 4G mobile broadband network. Qualcomm currently uses the licenses to run its FLO TV business, which it will shut down in March 2011. The 700MHz spectrum covers 300 million users in the United States. Qualcomm and AT&T anticipate closing the sale during the second half of 2011. It's still subject to regulatory approval.
