Google buys mobile payment firm Zetawire Posted: 14 Dec 2010 05:07 AM PST It has recently been revealed by analyst firm 451 Group that a small mobile payment company called Zetawire was purchased by Google. Zetawire owns a patent for "mobile banking, advertising, identity management, and credit card and mobile coupon transaction processing," according to DigitalTrends, but it appears the firm never released a product to the market. Instead, its acquisition by Google was finished in August and we assume that Google has been working with Zetawire on its near field communications (NFC) support, which launched in its latest operating system, Android 2.3 Gingerbread. While Google hasn't announced support for mobile banking just yet, we think that's something that's right around the corner. Read the full story here. |

T-Mobile offering G2 Android smartphone with HSPA+ support for $50 Posted: 13 Dec 2010 01:07 PM PST T-Mobile is now offering the T-Mobile G2, an Android 2.2 Froyo smartphone with HSPA+ connectivity for $49.99 with a new 2-year T-Mobile contract. T-Mobile doesn't appear to have updated its no-contract pricing for the phone. The T-Mobiel G2 offers a full QWERTY keyboard, a 5MP camera, and an 800MHz processor. We liked the device, but found that its processor made the phone feel less speedy than its competitors and that it was a bit heavy. However, its HSPA+ data speeds were quite impressive. For more information on the G2, hit up our full review. Read the full story here. |
