Apple adding navigation developers for iPhone and iOS

It appears that Apple is looking to add at least four new members to its iOS smartphone platform development team. Four job postings for positions requiring "Computational Geometry or Graph Theory" knowledge and "experience developing navigation software" suggest that Apple might be looking to put together its own mapping or navigation system for iOS.

Google open sources Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Jean-Baptiste Queru of Google announced today that Android 2.3 Gingerbread's platform source code used on the Google Nexus S was being put into the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repositories today. He asked that developers who don't have an immediate need for the source wait a day or two before synchronizing with the repository to prevent the systems at kernel.org from becomming overloaded.

Sprint pushes Android 2.2 Froyo update to Samsung Intercept

Sprint just confirmed the rumors that an Android 2.2 Froyo update would soon be coming for the Samsung Intercept. The update is now available and adds Sprint Navigation, fixes issues with dropped calls and forced messages, and more. It should also include Sprint Mobile Hotspot support. EA drops iPhone game prices to $0.99

EA has dropped 54 of its iPhone and iPod touch games (including 15 of its iPad titles) to just $0.99 as part of a holiday sale. Popular titles such as Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Scrabble, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, and The Sims 3 Ambitions, are included in the price drop. The move has helped surge a number of EA's titles into the Top 10 games listed on iTunes. If you're planning to travel for the holidays, looks like today is a good day to start loading up your iPod, iPad, or iPhone with new content. The new pricing is available in the app store now.

Sprint's Samsung Intercept may get Android 2.2 Froyo today

According to some leaked documents, Sprint's Samsung Intercept could get an update to Android 2.2 Froyo today. The software includes a number of bug fixes, and will also add support for Sprint's Mobile Hotspot for wireless tethering.

Sony to launch PlayStation app for iPhone, Android

Sony has announced that it will soon release an official PlayStation application for the iPhone and for Android smartphones. Sony's PlayStation app will let you view your PlayStation Network trophies, check your friend's games and online status updates, find new games and news for the PlayStation 3, PSP, and PlayStation 2, and read up on announcements from the European PlayStation blog. Its social networking features will allow you to share news and favorite games with Facebook, Twitter, or via e-mail. Sony says the first version will be available in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands. It says the next version will support most European countries and languages and that it's planning lots of new features. The app will be free and will run on the iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4 and newer, and Android smartphones running Android 1.6 or newer. There's no word on a U.S. version yet.
