Three to sell Nokia E7 Symbian^3 smartphone in early 2011

Today Three announced that it will sell the Nokia E7, a Symbian^3 powered smartphone, beginning in Q1 2011. The E7 offers a 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen, a QWERTY keyboard, an 8MP camera with HD video recording, and more. Three did not announce pricing for the E7, but we'll update you when it's available. Motorola DROID X Android update rolling out now

Motorola DROID X users are now reporting that a DROID X Android update, version 2.2.1, is rolling out now. The software is a maintenance update, so there aren't any major changes, but we suspect there will be some that are related to the DROID X Android 2.2 bugs which Motorola said it would fix back in October. As with most updates, it may be a good idea to back up your phone first, just in case.

Angry Birds Seasons now available on Palm webOS

Today Rovio announced, via Twitter, that its Angry Birds Seasons game is now available for the Palm Pre and the Palm Pixi from the Palm App Catalog. Angry Birds seasons is priced at $1.99 and provides both the Halloween edition of Angry Birds, as well as an advent-calendar style countdown to Christmas that provides one new level per day until Christmas.

Motorola says exploding DROID 2 was dropped

Motorola, speaking to PCMag, said that the recent reports of a man who said his DROID 2 exploded in his ear are, essentially, false. "The only thing that could explode in a phone would have resulted in a phone that did not work, yet this phone worked. And there was no explosive damage to the device (things inside blown outward, etc.). Reportedly, the man, Aron Embry, actually dropped the device. "The guy didn't notice the glass had cracked [...] so when he put it to his ear, he cut himself," Motorola told PCMag.

Qualcomm offering FLO TV rebate

Qualcomm has announced a FLO TV device rebate program. The rebate applies to the FLO TV Personal Television, the Audiovox Portable DVD Player with FLO TV, and FLO TV Auto Entertainment. The rebate is determined by the retail price of the device on your date of activation. All claims must be submitted or postmarked by April 30, 2011. FLO TV will be deactivated on March 27, 2011.

Nexus S preorders begin from Carphone Warehouse

The Google Nexus S, made by Samsung, is now available for preorder from Carphone Warehouse in the UK. The phone is free with a minimum BPS35 ($55.3) monthly plan from O2, Orange, T-Mobile, or Vodafone. Or it can be purchased without a contract for BPS549.94 ($870). The Nexus S is the first smartphone to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread and it offers a 1GHz processor, a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, and more. Carphone Warehouse's website says the phone will be available "by the end of December."

Best Buy offering free iPhone 3GS, BlackBerry Torch today

Today Best Buy if offering the 8GB iPhone 3GS for free with a new two-year AT&T contract. It's also offering the BlackBerry Torch 9700 for free with a contract, or the T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve 9300. The deal is valid for today only, and according to Boy Genius Report, the deal applies to new lines, upgrades, and additional lines. We suspect there's a limited amount of devices per store, so move early if you want to take advantage of the offering.

Novatel suing ZTE and Franklin Wireless over MiFi related patents

Today Novatel Wireless announced that it has filed a lawsuit against Franklin Wireless Corp, ZTE Corp, and ZTE (USA) Inc., for infringing on patents related to its popular MiFi family of Intelligent Mobile Hotspots. Novatel filed the lawsuit with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. "Novatel Wireless invented the MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot and with that created a whole new product category in the wireless ecosystem. We're confident that we will continue to lead the market, but competitors need to rely on their own inventions rather than infringe on ours," Peter Leparulo, chairman and CEO of Novatel Wireless, said. Novatel's MiFi branded hotspots are available on 25 carriers worldwide.

Apple lists top iPhone apps of 2010

Yesterday Apple posted a list of the top apps of 2010. It broke the lists out by genre, as well as by top paid, top grossing, and top free apps. Angry Birds, not surprisingly, took the most popular paid app spot for the year.

Sprint confirms it will offer a 4G tablet in 2011

In a recent interview with Forbes, a Sprint executive confirmed that Sprint will offer a tablet capable of running on its 4G network in 2011. The exec also noted that chief information officers are highly interested in deploying tablets within businesses.
