Netflix for Android updated with improved volume control, bug fixes

Netflix has released an update to its Android app for smartphones and tablets that includes few new features, but some important fixes. Most notable is the new user interface for controlling volume during playback, though Netflix says that there are stability improvements and bug fixes in the update as well. Netflix for Android is free to download and available in the Google Play Store now.

Adobe updates iOS, Android Reader apps with annotation, signature abilities

Adobe has released a big update to its Reader apps for iOS and Android that adds a number of new features that have been available in the desktop version of Reader for some time. The new version includes the ability to annotate PDFs, add sticky note comments, fill out PDF forms, add signatures to PDF documents, and send PDF files that need to be signed to other users. Adobe Reader is free and can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store now.

Instagram for Android may have notched one million downloads in less than a day, but its popularity hasn't seemed to wane one iota since then. In just six days since its launch, Instagram for Android has passed the five million download mark.

Toshiba unveils three Android 4.0 ICS Excite tablets

Toshiba has officially taken the wraps off of three new tablets for its Excite line. The new tablets come in three different sizes, though all of them are remarkably thin. Also, all three tablets are powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 3 quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Microsoft Office Mobile now available for Symbian smartphones

Nokia has announced that the full Microsoft Office Mobile suite, including Word Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile, and Excel Mobile, is now available for Symbian smartphones. The software is available in a free update for the Nokia 701, Nokia 700, Nokia 603, Nokia E7, Nokia X7, Nokia C7, Nokia Oro, and Nokia C6-01 now, and it will be available in the Nokia Store in the coming weeks. The expanded Office Mobile suite joins the OneNote and Lync 2010 apps that were made available for Symbian back in February of this year.

Nokia Lumia 900 with 4G LTE now available from Rogers in Canada

Nokia is continuing its global roll-out of the new Lumia 900 Windows Phone smartphone today with availability on Rogers in Canada. The Lumia 900 carried by Rogers is the same model as the one offered by AT&T in the U.S., and includes support for Rogers' 4G LTE network. Rogers is offering the Lumia 900 in black for $99.99 CAD with a new, three-year contract. Customers are able to purchase the phone in-store or online.

U.S. carriers unite to curtail mobile phone theft in the U.S.

The U.S. government has teamed up with Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, and AT&T to create a new database of stolen mobile phones that will prevent the devices from being used on the carriers' networks.

Nokia Lumia 900 up for pre-order in the UK, hits shelves in coming weeks

Now that Nokia has launched the Lumia 900 in the U.S., it is readying its efforts for a launch in the UK. Starting today, customers in the UK will be able to place pre-orders for the Lumia 900 from either Phones4U or Carphone Warehouse. Phones4U will exclusively carry the white version of the Lumia 900, and while Nokia says that the phone will hit shelves in the "coming weeks," Phones4U is advertising an April 27th ship date. The UK version of the Lumia 900 is very similar to the U.S. model, though it replaces 4G LTE connectivity with dual-carrier HSPA+ service.
