Motorola announces RAZR MAXX smartphone for Europe, Middle East

It may be coming a few months later than its American counterpart, but Motorola fans in Europe and the Middle East will be able to enjoy the all day battery of Motorola's RAZR MAXX next month. Still running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the Motorola RAZR MAXX promises up to 17.6 hours of talk time from its internal battery, and it is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. The major difference between the American and international versions will be LTE support, as the RAZR MAXX for Europe and the Middle East will not have it.

Sprint restarts Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for LG Optimus S

Way back in September of last year, Sprint released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the LG Optimus S smartphone. Unfortunately, it was pulled shortly after launch because users were reporting a number of bugs with the update. This left Optimus S users confused and bewildered as to where their Android 2.3 Gingerbread update went. Well, here we are nearly seven months later, and Sprint says that it will relaunch the update starting on Wednesday of this week. In addition to the improvements that come with Android 2.3, Sprint says the update also includes fixes for device charging, an SD card unmounting error, the device not being recognized by Windows SP, Vista, or 7 operating systems, a predictive text with Android keyboard issue, and a voice call volume issue. Users should get a notification on their handsets when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed.

Twitter for BlackBerry gains better phone integration, BBM features

A new version of the official Twitter app for BlackBerry smartphones is now available in the BlackBerry App World. Twitter for BlackBerry 3.0 now features integrated website sharing with the phone's native browser, direct photo uploads from the BlackBerry camera, and the ability to share the most recently posted tweet as a BBM Personal Message. It is also possible to access Twitter accounts directly from BBM profiles. Twitter for BlackBerry 3.0 is free and available now.

Sony acknowledges Xperia S display issue affecting some users

Facebook for iPad updated with Retina Display support, bug fixes

Facebook released a new version of its app for the Apple iPad with support for the Retina Display on the new iPad and a number of bug fixes and improvements. In addition to the higher-resolution interface, it is now possible to sign out of Facebook chat, profile pictures show for the correct accounts, and there is support for Czech, Danish, Greek, Indonesian, Malaysian, Norwegian (Bokmal), Portuguese (Portugal), and Thai. There are also bug fixes in the photos and friends list sections of the app. Facebook for iPad is free and available in the iTunes App Store now.

Barnes & Noble updates iOS NOOK app with Retina Display support

Barnes & Noble has released an update for its NOOK app for iOS devices with support for the Retina Display on the new iPad. The NOOK app now features high-resolution text and graphics that match the iPad display's capabilities. Additionally, the updated app lets users read in one or two columns when in landscape mode, and includes an enhanced highlight feature and better integration with iOS 4.3 or higher. NOOK for iOS is free and available in the iTunes App Store now.

NTT DoCoMo terminates agreement to produce mobile processors

Japan's number one mobile carrier, NTT DoCoMo, has announced the termination of its agreement with Fujitsu, Fujitsu Semiconductor, NEC Corporation, Panasonic Mobile Communications, and Samsung Electronics to produce processors for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. The agreement was signed in December of last year with the condition that the resulting joint venture be formed by March 2012. Since an agreement wasn't made between the companies, NTT DoCoMo dissolved the plan. The carrier had committed to investing $5.8 million into the proposed joint venture.

Nokia rolls out minor Lumia 710 update

Nokia is updating its Lumia 710 Windows Phone smartphone with a minor firmware update. Over the next few weeks users should see the firmware hit their devices. The new update brings audio improvements when using the 710's speaker phone, text messaging fixes, enhanced service number calling, and the latest version of Microsoft's Window Phone OS, v.7.10.8107.79.

HTC One X, One S hit T-Mobile UK on April 5

T-Mobile UK has announced that it will offer the brand-new HTC One X and One S Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphones on April 5. The One X and the One S are the first smartphones in HTC's new One series to hit the market, and feature HTC's new Sense 4.0 interface. T-Mobile will offer the One X for free with a 41 GBP per month plan, while the One S will be free with a 36 GBP per month tariff. Samsung is offering a treat for those that purchase a Google Galaxy Nexus smartphone direct from the company: it is throwing in a 2100mAh extended battery and matching rear cover for free with the purchase of the phone. Samsung says the extended battery provides users an average of 2 hours of additional battery life over the stock 1850mAh battery. The promotion runs from now through May 10, or while supplies last, and applies to the LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus offered by Verizon.
