Apple allegedly investigating poor Wi-Fi performance with new iPad

According to a support document leaked to 9to5mac, Apple is investigating complaints of poor Wi-Fi performance from customers with the new iPad. The complaints have included intermittent connectivity, weak signal, and the inability to see available Wi-Fi networks.

Instagram for Android updated again with more bug fixes

Less than 48 hours have passed since it was first launched, and already the second bug fix update for Instagram for Android has been issued. In addition to fixing some bugs that cause the camera function to crash, fixes for searching on HTC devices, some "file not found" gallery import problems, and a bug that saw some images being incorrectly reported as being too small have been fixed. The updated Instagram for Android app is available from the Google Play Store now.

Sprint, HTC announce the EVO 4G LTE with 4.7-inch 720p display, HD Voice

Sprint and HTC have just announced the EVO 4G LTE, the latest in Sprint's line of EVO Android smartphones. Like the HTC One X for AT&T, the EVO 4G LTE has a 4.7-inch, 720p HD display and 4G LTE support, though it swaps the single-piece polycarbonate body for the kickstand that was a highlight of the EVO 4G from 2010.

Gmail for Android update brings Android 4.0 ICS features to Honeycomb

Google released an update to its Gmail app for Android devices today that should make owners of Android 3.x Honeycomb tablets pretty happy. The new version of Gmail brings many of the Android 4.0 Gmail features to the older version of the OS, such as swipe to move between conversations, easy access to recently used labels, individual notifications for labels, and offline sync for up to 30 days of messages. The update also adds a new labels API for third-party developers to the Android 2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread versions of the Gmail app, as well as various bug fixes and performance improvements. Gmail for Android is free and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store now.

Samsung blames carriers for Galaxy S II Android 4.0 update delay

It's not uncommon for unlocked handsets to be the first to get the latest software updates from a manufacturer, but it seems like that is not the case for owners of unlocked versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II in the UK. Nokia to offer TV app to Lumia smartphone users in Finland

Nokia has announced that it will offer a streaming television app for Lumia Windows Phone smartphone users in Finland in the coming weeks. Nokia TV doesn't appear to offer live broadcasts, but instead allows users to browse listings of televisions shows and watch them on-demand. The company says that users won't even have to create an account to use the app. Nokia has not announced plans to offer Nokia TV to users outside of Finland, and it says that Finland is the ideal place for it because of its "advanced mobile user base and great existing broadcaster catch-up TV services."

nTelos won't be the only regional carrier to get the Apple iPhone 4 and 4S on April 20. Alaska Communications, a carrier that offers service in, you guessed it, Alaska, has announced that it will offer the 8GB iPhone 4 for $50 with a new contract, while the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB iPhone 4S will be available for $150, $250, and $350, respectively. The carrier offers two plans for the iPhone, starting at $80 per month and including 2GB of data usage.

Instagram for Android notches 1 million downloads in less than a day

The anticipation for the long-awaited Instagram for Android app was certainly high, as the app has notched over 1 million downloads from the Google Play Store in less than 24 hours from its release. Before its official release, Instagram for Android saw over 430,000 people sign up for pre-registration on Instagram's website. Once available, new accounts were added to the service at the rate of 2,000 per minute.

Sony Mobile Communications appoints new CEO

Sony Mobile Communications, the mobile arm of Sony that was formed after it bought out Ericsson's share of the Sony Ericsson joint venture, has announced that Kunimasa Suzuki has been named president and CEO of the company starting May 16. Suzuki replaces Bert Nordberg, who was the CEO of Sony Ericsson. Nordberg will assume the role of Chairman of Sony Mobile Communications' board.

Apple iPhone hits regional U.S. carrier nTelos on April 20

Regional carrier nTelos has revealed that it will be the fifth carrier in the U.S. to offer the Apple iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 on April 20. nTelos has about 400,000 subscribers and operates networks in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky. The carrier plans to undercut the national carriers with its pricing for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, as it will offer them for $50 less than the competition. The 16GB iPhone 4S will sell for $149 with a new two-year contract, while the 32GB and 64GB models will sell for $249 and $349, respectively. The iPhone 4 with 8GB of storage will be sold for $49. nTelos is offering unlimited data plans with the iPhone, but it says that users that exceed 5GB of data usage in a given month will see their speeds throttled.
