Comcast sues Sprint over alleged patent infringement Posted: 22 Feb 2012 10:13 AM PST Comcast is taking Sprint to court over the wireless carrier's alleged infringements of its patents. Comcast claims that Sprint violates four of its patents with the way it handles voice and data traffic; MMS, SMS, mobile email, and picture mail services; and how USB modems and hotspots allow a computer to connect to Sprint's network. Comcast is looking for an injunction as well as damages and legal fees. Sprint filed its own lawsuit against Comcast a couple of months ago, alleging that the cable company infringed its VoIP patents. Read the full story here. |

Verizon's 4G LTE network hits the skids for many in the U.S. again Posted: 22 Feb 2012 07:49 AM PST Verizon Wireless likes to tout that it has the nation's most reliable network, but many users would probably disagree with that statement today, as reports are in that the 4G LTE and 3G CDMA networks are down in various parts of the country. Many Verizon customers have complained that data services are down, including areas such as Houston, Dallas, and Memphis. Here in Upstate New York, I am unable to connect to the 4G LTE network, though 3G services seem to be functioning fine. Verizon faced a string of outages in 2011, so hopefully this isn't going to be a continuing trend for 2012. Read the full story here. |
Mozilla announces webapp marketplace for HTML5-powered apps Posted: 22 Feb 2012 07:26 AM PST Mozilla has announced that the Mozilla Marketplace, a store for webapps that are built with HTML5, will be launched at Mobile World Congress next week. Mozilla says that the Marketplace will allow developers to build one app that works across a variety of mobile platforms. The company claims that this is the first market for these types of operating system- and device-independent apps. Developers will be able to submit apps to the Marketplace starting next week, and it will be available to consumers later this year. Read the full story here. |
T-Mobile speaks out against Verizon's planned spectrum acquisitions Posted: 22 Feb 2012 06:45 AM PST T-Mobile has filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission urging the committee to block the proposed acquisition of spectrum holdings from cable companies by Verizon Wireless. T-Mobile contends that the acquisitions would concentrate too much spectrum in Verizon's hands. Verizon announced its intent to purchase $3.6 billion worth of spectrum licenses from Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable Inc., Bright House Networks, and Cox Communications last year. Flight Search lets users easily find flights by destination, airline, or flight duration, and offers suggestions on when the best time is to buy tickets to get the lowest price.
