Fujitsu plans to launch smartphones, tablets in Europe

According to the Financial Times, Japanese phone manufacturer Fujitsu plans to launch smartphones and tablets in Europe in the near future. Fujitsu has been focusing its efforts on its home market of Japan for the past few years, but it has indicated that it wants to branch out to an international market. Apparently the company wants to attack the new markets hard, as it expects to garner "double-digit" market share in a span of three to five years. Fujitsu did not say when its new devices would launch in Europe or North America.

Nokia Siemens promises double HSPA+ data speeds with Multiflow technology

Nokia Siemens Networks has announced Multiflow, a new technology for HSPA+ networks that promises to offer data speeds that are twice as fast and 50 percent more responsive than today's networks. The Multiflow technology lets handsets pull down data from two different towers at the same time. Nokia Siemens says that this offers a more efficient use of network resources and has the potential to double data throughput to devices. The technology is expected to be standardized this year and be deployed commercially in the second half of 2013.

Apple supplier Foxconn offers raises to Chinese employees

Apple recently started feeling pressure from consumers over the conditions in the Foxconn plants in China that manufacturer the company's popular iOS smartphones and tablets. As a result of that pressure, Foxconn has opened its doors to outsiders and has even retroactively boosted worker salaries by up to 25 percent.

Barnes & Noble expected to launch cheaper NOOK Tablet this week

According to information obtained by The Verge, Barnes & Noble is prepping to launch a less expensive version of its NOOK Tablet this week. The current NOOK Tablet sells for $249, $50 more than the Amazon Kindle Fire, its main competitor.

Google sneaks Latitude leaderboard into latest Google Maps for Android update

Though Google did not make an announcement of it in the change log of its latest update for Google Maps for Android, it appears that the company has quietly added a check-in leaderboard and points system to the Latitude component of its Google Maps. If this type of thing sounds familiar, it is because it is essentially what foursquare has based its entire business and services around for the past few years.
