Google to receive approval for Motorola acquisition from U.S. Department of Justice Posted: 13 Feb 2012 02:16 PM PST According to sources reporting to Reuters, the U.S. Department of Justice is set to announce its approval of search giant Google's purchase of smartphone and tablet manufacturer Motorola Mobility. Google is purchasing Motorola in an effort to secure its patent portfolio in order to bolster defense of Google's Android operating system from the patent wars that have been marching through the mobile industry. Android has been under heavy attack from the likes of Apple as well as smaller players, and it is thought that Google will use the newly acquired Motorola patents to force its competitors into backing off or inking licensing deals with more favorable terms. The Cyanogen Mod team has been hard at work getting a version of Android 4.0 working on the TouchPad, and, for the most part, they have been successful. Watch the video here. |
Video: Pantech Burst (AT&T) 4G LTE Android smartphone video review Posted: 13 Feb 2012 06:23 AM PST The Pantech Burst is a new 4G LTE smartphone for AT&T that carries an impressive list of specs for its price point. Sporting a 4-inch, Super AMOLED display, the Burst is said to be powered by a dual-core, 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, though we found out that our review unit is clocked at a faster 1.5GHz speed. Either way, performance is snappy even though the Burst is saddled with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread instead of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Watch the video here. |
