FCC expected to put an end to LightSquared's 4G LTE network bid

The Federal Communications Commission has indicated that it plans to reject LightSquared's ongoing bid to deploy a terrestrial 4G LTE network on spectrum that was formerly used for satellite communications. The FCC cites the GPS interference issue, which LightSquared has been combating for the better part of a year, as the reason for rejecting the company's application.

Dolphin has released version 3.5 of its web browser for the iPad, and included with this update is better support for gestures, improved syncing with Dolphin Connect, and enhanced overall stability. Dolphin Browser will now remember gestures after only one input, making it easier to control the browser with your own custom gestures. The Dolphin Connect integration has been improved with Facebook and Google login support, and the Webzine feature now display the top three columns directly on Dolphin's homescreen. Google adds Instant Uploads, What's Hot stream to Google+ for iPhone

Google has released an update to its Google+ app for the iPhone that includes new features like Instant Upload and the What's Hot stream that is already available on the Google+ mobile site and Android app. Additionally, it is now possible to see who +1'd a post through the iPhone app. Google+ for the iPhone is free and available in the iTunes App Store now.

WSJ: Apple testing iPad with smaller screen

Following its report that the next iPad from Apple will have 4G LTE connectivity and will be carried by Verizon Wireless and AT&T, The Wall Street Journal now also reports that Apple is currently testing a version of the iPad with a smaller display. The iPad and iPad 2 both have had the same size 9.7-inch display, though many people have longed for a smaller, more portable version of the popular tablet.

Justice Department approves Nortel and Novell patent purchase by RIM, Apple, Microsoft

Though it was slightly overshadowed by the announcement that the Department of Justice approved Google's plans to purchase Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion, the government also revealed that it has closed its investigation into the purchase of Nortel's patent portfolio by RIM, Microsoft, and Apple, and the purchase of Novell patents by Apple. The Justice Department determined that the patent purchases are "unlikely to substantially lessen competition," and that they are "not likely to significantly change existing market dynamics." RIM, Microsoft, and Apple joined to form a consortium to win the bid for the Nortel patents in what appeared to be an effort to specifically block Google from acquiring them.

Verizon, AT&T to carry 4G LTE Apple iPad says WSJ

Citing the ever-informative "sources familiar with the matter," The Wall Street Journal reports that both AT&T and Verizon Wireless plan to sell a version of the next iPad released by Apple with 4G LTE connectivity. Currently, Verizon Wireless and AT&T carry 3G compatible versions of the iPad 2.
