LightSquared accused of attempting to bribe a U.S. senator for support

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 10:25 AM PST

LightSquared can't seem to catch a break in its efforts to launch its proposed 4G LTE network, as it has now been accused of attempting to bribe a senator for favorable treatment. Senator Chuck Grassley claims that LightSquared hinted that it would construct a call center in his constituency of Iowa if he eased up on his opposition to the network. For its part, LightSquared has denied the allegations. LightSquared has tried unsuccessfully thus far to obtain government approval for its proposed terrestrial 4G LTE network. It has faced intense opposition from the GPS industry because use of LightSquared's spectrum, which neighbors that use by GPS, causes interference with existing GPS devices already in use.

White HTC Sensation with Android 4.0 ICS coming March 1 (Update: No ICS)

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 06:44 AM PST

HTC has announced that it will offer its Sensation smartphone in "ice white" come March 1. What is more interesting, however, is that this version of the Sensation (which was originally announced way back in April 2011) will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich already installed, making it the first HTC device with Android 4.0 on the market. The new ice white Sensation was announced in the Netherlands, but we would be surprised if HTC didn't bring it to every market that the original Sensation is available in. HTC isn't stiffing existing Sensation owners either, as it says an upgrade to Android 4.0 will be available for their handsets soon.Update: We have been informed by HTC that the original press release was incorrect in stating that the ice white Sensation will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Rather, it will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread when it launches on March 1. An upgrade to Android 4.0 is still planned for early this year.
