Evernote for iOS update adds rich text editing on iPad Posted: 23 Nov 2011 01:33 PM PST Evernote recently updated its iOS app to add rich text editing on the iPad, a feature that users have been wanting for a long time. Unfortunately, the iPhone version still doesn't have the full text editing capabilities that the iPad edition and other versions offer, but Evernote promises that is coming. In addition to the extended editing features on the iPad, the update also gives all iOS devices the ability to control sharing settings for each individual note. Android 2.3 Gingerbread update headed to Samsung DROID Charge "soon" Posted: 23 Nov 2011 01:06 PM PST Verizon Wireless has revealed that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Samsung DROID Charge smartphone will be released in the near future, or "soon" as the carrier puts it. The update will add security fixes and performance enhancements along with all of the other goodies that come with Android 2.3. Verizon typically rolls these updates out slowly, so users will have to sit back and wait for the notification on their phones alerting them that the update is ready to download and install. RIM outs beta of BlackBerry PlayBook native SDK version 2.0 Posted: 23 Nov 2011 08:34 AM PST RIM has released the first beta of version 2.0 of the native SDK for the BlackBerry PlayBook for developers. The new SDK offers APIs for the magnetometer, gyroscope, and accelerometer, a Payment Service for subscriptions and in-app purchases, improvements in usability, performance, and reliability, and the Scoreloop SDK 1.0 Beta 1 for social gaming integration. Along with the beta of the SDK, developers can also access the BlackBerry Tablet OS 2.0 Developer Beta software update for the PlayBook itself. Windows Phone Marketplace growth charted Posted: 23 Nov 2011 07:04 AM PST Microsoft's Windows Phone Marketplace recently tipped the scales at 40,000 available apps, and it has grown steadily since its inception in the fall of last year. Research firm Distimo has compiled a report on the growth of the Marketplace, and discovered that while it still has a way to go to catch up to the more establish app ecosystems, its getting there. HTC backpedals on S3 Graphics purchase following loss to Apple Posted: 23 Nov 2011 06:38 AM PST HTC has said that it will "reevaluate" its decision to purchase S3 Graphics in the wake of S3's loss to Apple in front of the U.S. International Trade Commission. It has long been assumed that the sole reason that HTC was interested in S3 was for its IP portfolio so that it could have a stronger legal stance in the courtroom against Apple, and with the ITC declaring that Apple has not infringed upon S3's patents at all, that reason has become nullified. HTC was due to gain S3's portfolio of 235 patents and patent applications from the purchase. Read the full story here. |

LG Optimus 3D gets its Android 2.3 Gingerbread update Posted: 23 Nov 2011 05:32 AM PST The update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Optimus 3D that LG promised would be coming is now being delivered to users with unlocked and unbranded handsets. The update bumps the Android version up to 2.3.5 and includes 21Mbps HSPA+ support, a new 2D and 3D video editor, and better video quality, along with all of the other goodies that usually come with Gingerbread. Owners should get a notification on their handsets when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed. Still no word on when it will be delivered to locked handsets or the Thrill 4G variation of the Optimus 3D carried by AT&T. Read the full story here. |
Nokia dismisses criticism, says Lumia 800 sales off to strong start Posted: 23 Nov 2011 05:05 AM PST Yesterday, an analyst firm claimed that Nokia's first Windows Phone smartphone, the Lumia 800, was not selling as well as the company had hoped, and that sales to customers were a mere 500,000 in its first quarter of availability.
