Judge denies law on warrantless cellphone tracking

A U.S. District Court judge in Texas has ruled that a law that allowed the government to obtain cellphone records without a warrant is unconstitutional. The judge said that obtaining information such as a phone's location when a call was placed requires a warrant, as per the Constitution.

Flipboard adds multiple accounts, Tumblr support with version 1.6 update

Flipboard is on the lookout for those that have a communal iPad that is shared throughout their family or household, as the latest version (1.6) adds multiple account support. The Flipboard Account feature lets users sync their favorite articles and sources to various devices, including Flipboard for the iPhone when that arrives. Additionally, Flipboard has added Tumblr and 500px support to the social network stream options. Flipboard 1.6 for the iPad is free and available in the iTunes App Store now.

Evernote for Android updated with notebook sharing, stand-alone widget app

Evernote has released version 3.3 of its note-taking and syncing app for Android, and with the update it has included improved notebook sharing and better integration with the Evernote-owned Skitch app. Additionally, Evernote has released a seperate widget app that lets users make use of the widget while the main Evernote app is stored on an SD card.

Orange confirms San Francisco II pricing and date

Orange UK has announced that its San Francisco II smartphone will go on sale at the end of this month in shops and online. It is being offered for 99 GBP on Orange pay as you go with a 10 GBP top-up and free on 24 month plans of 10.50 GBP per month. The successor to the Orange San Francisco, the II adds the Android Gingerbread operating system, HD voice for clearer calls, a signal booster, Orange's Mobile Mail, and a thinner and more lightweight body. Other features include a 3.5-inch WVGA TFT touchscreen for viewing pictures and video taken with its on-board 5MP camera. An 800MHz processor is under the hood, along with a-GPS, 512MB of internal memory, and Wi-Fi. The Orange San Francisco II is expected to offer up to 4.5 hours of talk time or 10 days standby.

AT&T in talks with Nokia to carry Windows Phone models

According to the head of AT&T's tablet department, the carrier is already in talks with Nokia to carry Windows Phone smartphones produced by the Finnish company. This doesn't come as too much of a surprise, but it is the first official word of talks we have heard of about a possible U.S. carrier partnership.

Google reveals LTE Galaxy Nexus specs: thicker, heavier than GSM model

A Google landing page has been discovered that reveals more details about the specifications of the LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus smartphone that will be headed to Verizon Wireless at some point in the future. As we expected, the LTE model is slightly thicker and heavier than its GSM counterpart, but it does pack a larger battery under its beefier shell.

Samsung Captivate Glide, DoubleTime priced ahead of November 20 release

AT&T has released the pricing information for the upcoming Samsung Captivate Glide and Samsung DoubleTime smartphones that are due to be released on November 20. According to a post on AT&T's website, the Captivate Glide will cost $149.99 with a new two-year contract, while the DoubleTime will set buyers back $49.99 with the same contract. Both smartphones feature full QWERTY keyboards, but the Captivate Glide features a larger display and faster, dual-core processor over the DoubleTime. Pantech Pocket to cost $49.99 when it hits AT&T on November 20

We finally have a price for Pantech's funky Pocket smartphone, and its not too shabby. The Pocket features a unique, 4-inch display that has a 4:3 aspect ratio, much the same as an Apple iPad, and 800 x 600 pixels of resolution. Pantech says that this allows the Pocket to boast a 20 percent larger viewing area than most 4-inch display devices. The Pocket sports a 5 megapixel camera with HD (720p) video and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Interested shoppers can pick it up for $49.99 with a new two-year contract when it arrives on AT&T shelves on November 20.

Samsung confirms Galaxy S II Android 4.0 ICS upgrade coming

This may not come as too much of a surprise, but Samsung UK has officially confirmed that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will come to the Galaxy S II smartphone at some point in the future. Unfortunately, Samsung did not provide a timeline as to when the upgrade would show up or how it will be customized when it arrives. It is not known how upgrades across the various carrier-specific versions of the Galaxy S II would be handled, but if you are a user in the U.S., don't hold your breath, as Samsung does not have the greatest track record for this sort of thing. There are original Galaxy S variants that still haven't been upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, even though that was promised eons ago.

Staples selling $199 BlackBerry Playbook, $299 Acer Iconia Tab on Black Friday

Well ahead of Black Friday, Staples has announced its planned Black Friday sale prices to customers, and it looks like folks ready to buy a tablet for a loved one can pick up RIM's 16GB BlackBerry Playbook for $199 from the retailer. The PlayBook is a 7-inch Wi-Fi tablet that offers dual cameras, easy to use multi-tasking support, and a WebKit browser that supports Flash 10.1 and HTML5.
