Google pulling Gmail app for BlackBerry users

In yet another blow to BlackBerry users, Google, in a statement on its Apps Blog, announced it will be ending support for its Gmail App on the BlackBerry platform. The company will officially yank the app on November 22. Users will still continue to be able to use the app beyond that date, but get no support from Google as it remains focused on building a better mobile browser experience for Gmail.

Adobe said to cease development on Flash Player for mobile devices

According to inside information obtained by ZDNet, Adobe reportedly has plans to stop development on its Flash Player plugin for mobile devices. Instead, Adobe will focus its efforts on HTML5 development and applications for mobile devices.

AT&T BlackBerry Torch 9860 touchscreen smartphone now available

In addition to the Bold 9900, AT&T is also offering another BlackBerry smartphone, the Torch 9860. The Torch 9860 offers a large and bright 3.7-inch full touchscreen display to support web browsing and picture viewing. A 5MP camera with image stabilization is also on-board with 720p video recording capabilities. The device is supported on AT&T's 4G HSPA+ data broadband network and is available now for $99.99 with a qualifying service contract or $449.99 full retail. BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone now available from AT&T

AT&T is now offering a new BlackBerry smartphone, the Bold 9900. The Bold 9900 offers 4G HSPA+ (not LTE) data support, as well as a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen display along with the traditional QWERTY keyboard below. The device runs on RIM's BlackBerry OS 7 and is, according to the manufacturer, the thinnest BlackBerry available to date at just 10.5mm (0.41in). Other features of note include a 5MP camera with 720p video recording, a 1.2GHz processor, and Bluetooth connectivity. Firefox for Android updated with new protection features

Mozilla's mobile version of its Firefox browser for the Android platform has been updated. The new version is aimed at providing more control to the user with Firefox Master Password. The new feature allows users the ability to protect and save all browser usernames and passwords with one master password. In addition, Firefox users can now add icons for their favorite websites for quick, one touch launches. Firefox for Android version 8 is free and is available in the Android Market now.

Bloomberg is reporting today that bookseller and tablet manufacturer Barnes & Noble has asked U.S. regulators to investigate Microsoft's tactics in demanding patent royalties from manufacturers of Android-based smartphones and tablets.

Galaxy Nexus Android 4.0 phone rumored to launch November 21 on Verizon

The rumors are swirling that the latest Google flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung will land November 21 with Verizon Wireless. The device was announced last month and will run Google's latest and greatest operating system, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). The Galaxy Nexus offers a massive 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD touchscreen display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and support for Verizon's 4G LTE data network. Other features include a 5MP camera with LED flash, 1080p HD video recording, a user facing 1.3MP camera for video chats, and NFC support.

Though Panasonic announced its plans to develop an Android tablet in the vein of its ToughBook line of laptops back in June, it has taken until now for the company to reveal the final version of the new tablet, complete with shipping dates and pricing information. The 10.1-inch ToughPad A1 is designed to take a substantial amount of abuse in harsh environments, and it carries an equally abusive to your wallet price tag.

Apple adds self-checkout, in-store pickup to Apple Store app for iOS

Apple has released version 2.0 of its Apple Store app for iOS devices, and it has included a number of new features designed to improve the shopping experience when you visit an Apple Store. The app now lets users purchase something from their phone and schedule in-store pickup to avoid the lines and crowds. Users can also purchase items while in the store by scanning it and paying right on their phone, eliminating the need to deal with an actual sales associate. There is also a new tab to let users track their current and previous purchases. Apple has added support for Canada and China within the app, but the in-store pickup and self-checkout features are only available in the U.S., and the latter requires an iPhone 4 or 4S. The Apple Store app is free and available in the iTunes App Store now.

Google to keep Android free in spite of Motorola purchase

During a tour of South Korea, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt reassured the company's Android partners that the purchase of Motorola Mobility would not affect the availability of the Android operating system, and that it would remain free to use. South Korea is home to Samsung, which is the largest Android device manufacturer in the world, and LG, which also produces a number of Android smartphones and tablets each year.
