Many users have reported that the new phone has significantly lower battery performance than the older iPhone 4. As such, it features a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 5-row QWERTY keyboard, and a 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor powering Samsung's TouchWiz interface on top of the Android (2.3 Gingerbread) operating system. Nokia 600 Symbian Belle smartphone canceled before release Posted: 02 Nov 2011 08:29 AM PDT Nokia has canceled its plans to launch the Nokia 600 Symbian smartphone and will not ship it to markets as previously announced. The 600 was supposed to run Symbian Belle and was targeted towards music fans with its 106 phon loudspeaker and built-in FM transmitter and FM radio. Nokia claimed it was its loudest smartphone yet when it was announced back in August. "After careful consideration we have decided not to ship the Nokia 600 to markets, we are constantly continuing to refine our portfolio to bring consumers the best possible range of devices to meet their diverse needs," said Nokia in an official statement. Nokia Maps headed to Windows Phone Marketplace for all phones, sans Drive Posted: 02 Nov 2011 07:12 AM PDT One of the differentiating factors of Nokia's Windows Phone models that separate them from the others is Nokia's Maps and Drive app, which comes pre-loaded and offers free, turn-by-turn navigation and directions. Apparently, Nokia intends to release a version of Nokia Maps to the Windows Phone Marketplace so that all devices can use it, including those made by Samsung, LG, HTC, and others. LG says Optimus 2X will indeed get Android 4.0 ICS upgrade Posted: 02 Nov 2011 06:04 AM PDT In a bit of "he said, she said," LG now claims that the Optimus 2X smartphone will indeed be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, despite earlier reports to the contrary. The manufacturer says that the upgrade will head to other "high-end smartphones" as well, though it does not specify the other models. LG also did not provide a timeline as to when we will see the upgrade for the Optimus 2X and others, but since the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is only due to hit a number of Optimus phones this month, it might be a good while before Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich comes along. Leap Wireless plans to cover 25 million with LTE by end of 2012 Posted: 02 Nov 2011 05:05 AM PDT Leap Wireless, owner of Cricket, has revealed plans to cover 25 million residents with 4G LTE service by the end of next year. The network provider will launch a trial LTE network in Tucson, Arizona this year, after which a wider roll out is expected to follow. Smartphones that run on the new LTE network are expected by middle 2012. Leap has said in the past that it was waiting for prices to come down on LTE smarpthones before it would sell them under its Cricket brand. The carrier says that it owns enough spectrum in most markets to offer the LTE services along with its existing CDMA network, but that it will acquire more spectrum if need be.
