Google Galaxy Nexus ICS smartphone hits the FCC geared for Verizon

Google's new flagship phone, the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung, has finally hit the FCC. The filing shows the smartphone supporting Verizon's 4G LTE data network, but we've still no word on when the device will hit store shelves. The Galaxy Nexus features a massive 4.65-inch, Super AMOLED HD (1280 x 720 pixel) touchscreen display and a speedy 1.2GHz dual-core processor. It is the first device to hit the market with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Google's mobile OS.

The Amazon Kindle Fire is a 7-inch touchscreen-equipped Android tablet computer that runs Amazon's custom software. It sports a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP processor, half a gig of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage. What makes it interesting, though, is its low $199 price and integration with all of Amazon's services, including Appstore, streaming video, AmazonMP3, and books.

Kindle Touch 3G to be sold by AT&T

Amazon's Kindle Touch 3G e-reader will not just be sold by Amazon itself. It seems that the device will also be sold at AT&T store,s as well, according to the carrier. AT&T's 3G data network is the backbone for connectivity for the e-reader so it seems fitting that the wireless carrier would offer it to consumers directly. The Kindle Touch 3G by Amazon will go on sale for $149 and is expected to be available starting on November 21.

Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone on sale now in the UK, Europe

Starting today, Nokia's first Windows Phone smartphone, the Lumia 800, is on sale throughout the UK as well as in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. UK networks Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, Phone4U, and Carphone Warehouse will offer the new handset starting at 8 a.m., and all will offer the Lumia 800 for free with a qualifying 24 month contract, except for T-Mobile.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G gets Android Gingerbread update

Owners of the Galaxy S 4G smartphone offered by T-Mobile can choose to initiate a manual update to get Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system starting today. In addition to the normal Gingerbread updates, users will also get some enhancements for the camera and Wi-Fi connectivity as well as some security patches.

Google Voice for Android updated with group texting

Google has released an update to the Google Voice app for Android smartphone and tablets that adds a new group texting feature among other things. The new text option will let users send the same message to multiple recipients at once, though it does not carry on a group chat conversation. The app can also prefetch voicemails so they can be listened to without a data connection, and Google boasts that the app has improved text messaging notifications. The Google Voice app is free and available in the Android Market now. It requires a free Google Voice account to function.

Toshiba Thrive gets Android 3.2 Honeycomb upgrade

Toshiba is delivering an update to its Thrive tablet today that bumps the software up to Android 3.2 Honeycomb and fixes bugs and enhances performance. The update adds an improved compatibility mode for apps that don't scale well to the larger screen, enhances screen rotation, and adds a new API features for developers. Users can grab the update by using the Check for Updates function in Toshiba's pre-loaded Service Station app.

Dolphin has announced version 2.0 of its alternative browser for the iPhone and iPad, and with it comes the Dolphin Connect feature that debuted with the Android version a few weeks ago. Dolphin Connect lets users sync all of their bookmarks and preferences between various version of the Dolphin browser, so if you happen to own an Android phone and an iPad, you can access the same bookmarks on each without any extra work. Dolphin also says there are numerous enhancements to the Webzine feature in version 2.0 of its iOS browser, and the 16 most popular Webzine channels are now showcased front and center on the browser's homescreen. RIM releases BlackBerry Curve 9830 all-touchscreen smartphone

In addition to the new BlackBerry Bold 9790, RIM has also announced the new BlackBerry Curve 9380, the first all-touchscreen smartphone in the Curve family. The 9830 looks very similar to the all-touch Torch 9850/9860, but it has a smaller display and lower-spec components.

LG has already promised that the Optimus 3D smartphone would be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread starting this month, but it has now released more details as to what will be included with that update, and its more than just a bump in Android versions. Verizon restarts HTC DROID Incredible Gingerbread deployment

HTC and Verizon Wireless have apparently restarted the deployment of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original DROID Incredible. Initially released back in September, the companies pulled the update shortly after it went out for undisclosed reasons. Here we are over two months later and users are reporting left and right that the upgrade is once again available to them. Users should get a notification on their devices when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed, or they can manually check through the Settings app on the phone itself.

Adobe releases Touch Apps for Android tablets

Adobe released a suite of new image manipulation apps specifically tailored for Android Honeycomb tablets today. Called Adobe Touch Apps, the six apps allow users to edit and transform images on any Honeycomb-powered tablet, and then send the final work to Adobe's Creative Cloud online storage locker to edit them further on their computer.

BBM Music now available in the UK

RIM has announced that its social music service, BBM Music, has officially stepped out of beta and is now available for consumption in the UK. For 4.99 GBP monthly, the service gives users the ability to stream 50 tracks selected from the millions available in BBM Music. Users can choose to swap out up to 25 of those tracks per month for new ones, but the upside is that they also get free access to the tracks that any of their BBM Music friends have. The theory is that if you have a lot of BBM Music friends, you will have access to a lot of music each month for a low price. BBM Music works on most BlackBerry smartphone devices and can be downloaded from the BlackBerry App World.
