Google Maps for Android update adds live events to Places Posted: 11 Nov 2011 01:54 PM PST Google released yet another update to its Maps app for Android smartphones and tablets today that adds live event information to the Places section for a select group of cities. With version 5.12.0, users can see live event schedules in New York, Paris, London, San Francisco, and Zurich, Switzerland. Google did not say when this feature would be available for other locales, but it is highly likely the company is working on that now. Apple says iOS 5.0.1 leaves some battery issues unresolved Posted: 11 Nov 2011 12:15 PM PST Yesterday afternoon Apple released iOS 5.0.1 with promises of battery life fixes for beleaguered iPhone 4S owners. It didn't take long for reports to start circulating the web claiming that the update had no effect on the 4S's battery life, and some say that it is even worse after the update. Apple, normally mum on things of this sort, has released a statement affirming that there are still battery life issues present in iOS 5.0.1. Read the full story here. |
Amazon Kindle Fire to have Hulu Plus, ESPN apps at launch Posted: 11 Nov 2011 11:23 AM PST Barnes & Noble's NOOK Tablet won't be the only 7-inch tablet with Hulu Plus available this holiday season, as Amazon has added the Hulu Plus app as well as the ESPN app to the list of software that will be available for the Kindle Fire when it launches next week. Amazon previously announced that Facebook, Pandora, Netflix, Rhapsody, and thousands of other apps would be available for the tablet when it launches. Read the full story here. |

Unlocked iPhone 4S now available from Apple's U.S. online store Posted: 11 Nov 2011 07:18 AM PST Though Apple has been offering unlocked versions of the new iPhone 4S smartphone in other parts of the world for some time, it promised that it would make it available in the U.S. this month and has done just that today via its online store. As expected, the unlocked models carry a large price tag, with the 16GB model costing $649, and the 64GB version setting you back $849. You can't put a price on freedom, though, right? Apple iPhone 4S to be SIM-locked by Sprint starting today Posted: 11 Nov 2011 06:45 AM PST Last month, when the Apple iPhone 4S was launched for Sprint, the was a fair amount of confusion with regards to the SIM card slot that can be used when traveling overseas. There were reports that the SIM would be unlocked, but Sprint said it would be locked, later claiming it would initially be unlocked and would be later locked. Adobe releases Flash Player security update for Android, BlackBerry PlayBook Posted: 11 Nov 2011 06:16 AM PST Adobe may not be developing Flash Player for mobile devices anymore, but the company has committed to releasing security updates and patches when necessary. The latest update just released for Android devices and the BlackBerry PlayBook accomplishes just that, as it upgrades the Flash Player to version 11.1 and fixes "critical security vulnerabilities" within the plug-in. Android users can download the updated version from the Android Market now, and RIM will likely include the updated Flash Player with its next over-the-air update for the PlayBook. Nokia launches Nokia Suite 3.2 companion app for Windows PCs Posted: 11 Nov 2011 05:51 AM PST Nokia has released the Nokia Suite version 3.2 companion app for Windows PCs, graduating it from beta and changing its name from Ovi Suite.
