Google has released Gmail for Android version 2.3.5 to the Android Market with improvements to its syncing options and notification choices, as well as a few other enhancements. Motorola DROID Bionic finally hits Verizon in September Posted: 28 Jul 2011 02:31 PM PDT According to Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha, the long-awaited DROID Bionic, Moto's first LTE-equipped smartphone, will finally hit Verizon Wireless shelves in September. The DROID Bionic was originally announced at CES back in January, and features a dual-core processor, 4.3-inch display, and that 4G LTE support. Motorola ships 440,000 XOOMs, loses $56 million in Q2 2011 Posted: 28 Jul 2011 02:10 PM PDT Motorola Mobility, the former division of Motorola that produces the fun stuff like smartphones and tablets, has just released its Q2 2011 financial results, and let's just say that there's little fun in the report. Study finds no link between adolescent cancer and cellphones Posted: 28 Jul 2011 12:37 PM PDT A new study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute has found no link between the use of cellphones and development of brain tumors in adolescents. This particular study looked at 1,000 European youths, and was prompted by concerns that younger people would be more susceptible to radiation emitted by cellphones. Read the full story here. |
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with HSPA+ headed to Telus in Canada Posted: 28 Jul 2011 11:02 AM PDT Telus has made it known that it will soon be carrying an HSPA+-equipped version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Honeycomb tablet. As is the usual habit of North American carriers, Telus has tacked a "4G" label onto the Tab 10.1, though its capabilities don't quite compare to the 4G LTE version that Verizon Wireless started selling today. Unfortunately, Telus failed to mention an exact release date or price in its announcement for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but hopefully Canadians won't have to wait too long to enjoy a cellular version of the tablet. T-Mobile myTouch 4G owners can get Gingerbread update in-store on August 5 Posted: 28 Jul 2011 10:42 AM PDT According to new memo from T-Mobile, owners of the myTouch 4G that have yet to receive the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update that started rolling out to customers on July 20 will be able to get their phones upgraded manually at T-Mobile stores starting on August 5. Technicians at the store will use an SD card to update the software on the phones manually. T-Mobile says that this process has the potential to erase a user's data off of the phone, so make sure you have backed everything up if you follow this upgrade path. Motorola PHOTON 4G now available for Sprint Premiere customers Posted: 28 Jul 2011 08:16 AM PDT Being a Sprint Premiere customer (read: you pay more to Sprint than other people) does have its perks, and one of them is the ability to order certain high-profile devices before the general peons can. This time around it's the second dual-core smartphone to grace the Now Network, the upcoming Motorola PHOTON 4G. The PHOTON 4G is the first WiMAX-equipped smartphone from Sprint that also has global-ready GSM support tucked inside. Premiere customers can order it today for $199.99 and a new two-year agreement. Chinese company launches own OS, smartphones for the mainland Posted: 28 Jul 2011 07:53 AM PDT Because there aren't enough smartphone operating systems on the market already, the Alibaba Group, which owns China's largest online consumer shopping site, has announced its own smartphone OS and accompanying smartphone for the Chinese market. Motorola has had the habit of claiming its ATRIX Android smartphone as the "world's most powerful" due to its dual-core processor, but the UK Advertising Standards Authority sees things differently and looks to force Motorola to change its marketing.
