Motorola ATRIX 4G Gingerbread update seeded to testers Posted: 20 Jul 2011 02:16 PM PDT The update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Motorola ATRIX 4G can't be too far off, as the company has started sending the necessary files to update to its group of real-world testers today. A few days ago Motorola sent out the call looking for testers of the update, and now it is seeding the update out to said testers. Details as to what is included in the update are scarce, but if history has taught us anything about Motorola's update plans, it won't be too long before the update is released to the masses, barring that the beta test reveals any major problems with it of course. Senator Kohl urges FCC to block AT&T, T-Mobile deal Posted: 20 Jul 2011 12:18 PM PDT Senator Herb Kohl has penned a letter to the Federal Communications Commission urging it to block the proposed buyout of T-Mobile USA by AT&T. In the letter, Kohl says that the buyout "would likely cause substantial harm to competition and consumers, would be contrary to antitrust law and not in the public interest, and therefore should be blocked by your agencies." In particular, he points out that low-cost competitor T-Mobile would be effectively eliminated from the market. T-Mobile announced new, lower-cost plans today, which has prompted many to bemoan the buyout by AT&T, as it is felt that AT&T would not implement the same kind of consumer-friendly plans that T-Mobile has. Sprint to announce 4G expansion plans later this fall Posted: 20 Jul 2011 08:15 AM PDT Sprint CEO Dan Hesse spoke to a number of journalists at Sprint's headquarters in Kansas yesterday, and in his talks he mentioned that the carrier will have some news this fall regarding its 4G network plans. Sprint has come under fire recently for the seemingly molasses-like speed at which it has expanded its 4G WiMAX network when compared to the aggressive roll-outs of Verizon Wireless' LTE and T-Mobile's HSPA+ networks. Hesse admitted that things have slowed down lately, and blamed most of it on the financial troubles that Sprint's partner Clearwire has been facing. Of course, he didn't mention anything about the supposed LTE plans that Sprint might have with LightSquared, so I guess we will have to wait until fall to learn more. Read the full story here. |
