U.S. residents have had to sit idly by as one of the best Sony Ericsson smartphones in recent memory, the Xperia arc, made its tour around other parts of the world. It looks like the wait has come to an end, as the Xperia arc is now listed in Sony Ericsson's U.S. store unlocked for $600.

Kik releases SDK for real-time file sharing

RIM releases BlackBerry WebWorks SDK for smartphones version 2.1

Just a couple short weeks after releasing the tablet version of the BlackBerry WebWorks SDK version 2.1, RIM has gone and released the smartphone version. With the new update comes access to a bunch of new APIs that enable developers to create richer programs for BlackBerry smartphones. Developers can now add notifications for their apps in the main banner of the BlackBerry homescreen, alongside the notifications for missed calls, BlackBerry Messenger messages, and the like. Interested developers can head over to RIM's developer portal to download the new SDK now.

Nokia promises to support MeeGo for years to come

Huawei ups smartphone shipment predictions to 20 million

Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Huawei has announced that it plans to ship 20 million smartphones this year, up from the 12 to 15 million that it had earlier predicted. This is significant increase from the 3.3 million smartphones it shipped last year. Huawei is looking towards the success of its Android powered phones to propel it through the rest of the year.

Rogers turns on 4G LTE service for Canadians

Rogers has flipped the switch on the its 4G LTE network the Ottawa area - the first in Canada. At first, customers will only be able to access the new network with a Sierra USB modem, but Rogers has plans to launch LTE smartphones from HTC and Samsung later this year. Rogers says that users could theoretically hit download speeds of 75Mbps with the USB modem, but 12Mbps to 25Mbps will be more typical. The Canadian carrier expects to have its LTE network deployed to 21 more markets in 2012.

Apple acknowledges PDF vulnerability in iOS, promises fix

It was announced yesterday that a German IT agency discovered a serious security vulnerability in Apple's iOS platform. The security hole will allow a malicious user access to the root files of the phone, where they could see personal user information like passwords, call logs, messages, and more. Google Latitude for Android now has Google+ integration

More goodies just keep popping up in the latest version of Google Maps for Android that was released yesterday. In addition to the new, downloadable maps feature, it looks like Latitude check-ins are now integrated with Google+. When a user has the Google+ app installed on their phone, and has a Google+ account of course, they will now have the option to share their Latitude check-ins with the various Circles that are set up on their Google+ account. Once a Circle or two is added to the check-in, the post will automatically appear on the user's Google+ page.
