Google now activating Android devices at a rate of 550,000 per day

Google confirms Google+ has 10 million members, 1 billion shares

During Google's quarterly financial results call, CEO Larry Page confirmed outside estimates that Google's new social network, Google+, now has over 10 million members. He also said that over 1 billion items have been shared on the network in its two-week lifespan.

Google updates Google+ app for Android, iOS users continue to wait

Google has pushed out an update to its Google+ app for Android smartphones that fixes some bugs and adds a few features users have been looking for. Version 1.0.2 adds the ability to customize the stream view to specific circles, control who can start huddle group chats with you, dismiss huddle invitations, add entire circles to a huddle chat, and set a photo as a wallpaper. Google has also fixed the bugs that some users encountered when using the Swype keyboard with the Google+ app. While Google continues to update its Android Google+ app, iPhone users are still waiting for Apple to approve the Google+ app for the iOS platform. The updated Google+ for Android app can be downloaded from the Android Market now.

Motorola DROID 3 goes to Bell in Canada as XT860 4G

Motorola's recently released DROID 3 smartphone for Verizon Wireless has received a maple-dipped makeover and will be headed to Bell in Canada as the XT860 4G. The XT860 4G retains many of the same features as the DROID 3, though it has dropped the CDMA radio for "4G" HSPA+ support.

Seesmic for iPhone updated with multiple account posting

Seesmic has released an update to its social networking iPhone app that will now allow you to post to multiple social accounts at the same time. In addition, version 1.4 now complies with Twitter's new oAuth rules, so you can have full access to your direct messages once again. Seesmic has also added the ability to save updates as drafts, and upload multiple pictures at the same time. The composer window has seen a refresh, too. Android Market supports multiple accounts in new version

One of the things that has been a limitation and annoyance to Android users is that the Android Market will only use the primary Google account associated with the phone, even though many other Google apps allow you to switch between accounts. Hidden in the latest update to the Market that was announced by Google is the ability to change the account that is used by the Android Market.

Facebook for Android updated with more Pages support

Facebook has issued a minor update to its Android application that is said to improve support for Pages, which it recently introduced with version 1.6. Version 1.6.1 now allows you to view the full list of Pages that you like, as well as the Pages that you are an admin for. You can post as a Page that you admin, and you can tag Pages in status updates with the @ symbol. Facebook for Android is free and available in the Android Market now.

The latest generation of the Motorola DROID, the DROID 3, was released to online buyers about a week ago, and now you can walk into a Verizon Wireless store and pick one up there, too. As a reminder, $199.99 and a new two-year contract nets you a 4-inch, qHD display, a dual-core, 1GHz processor, and a slide-out, 5-row keyboard. You can also take the DROID 3 overseas if you are the traveling type, as it features global compatibility. It does not have 4G LTE support built-in, though.
