Consumers expect mobile pages to load as fast as desktop pages, are often left unhappy

According to a new study by Compuware, mobile web users expect websites to load as fast on their mobile devices as they do on a desktop computer at home. Despite this expectation, almost half of the users polled in the study said that sites loaded slower on their mobile phone than on their home computer.

ISIS partners with VISA, MasterCard, Discover, AmEx, for mobile payments

ISIS, the joint-venture between Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile, has announced new agreements with all four major credit card companies for its upcoming mobile payments initiative. Lining up all of the major credit card companies gives ISIS' mobile payment plans a certain amount of weight in what is sure to be a crowded market by the middle of next year.

FDA looks to regulate mobile medical apps

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a draft plan to regulate mobile apps that provide health and medical advice. The agency is looking to regulate two specific types of apps, and will ignore apps that provide dietary and fitness guidance for the time being.

Google Maps for Android get 3D buildings for 18 more cities

Google has added 3D buildings for 18 more cities in its Google Maps for Android app. Users can now view 3D skyscrapers and buildings when viewing London, Paris, Barcelona, Stockholm, Singapore, Lisbon, Boulder, and 11 major cities in South Africa. These new cities join the over 100 other metropolitan areas around the world that can be viewed in 3D. Users do not need to update their app, as the new 3D view will just appear when they browse to one of the new cities.

Virgin Mobile upgrades payLo plan with more messages, data

Virgin Mobile has upgraded its payLo plan with larger allotments of text messages and data - without raising the price. The same $30 per month that used to get you 1,500 minutes with 500 text messages and 10MB of data usage now buys you 1,500 messages and 30MB of data to go with those 1,500 voice minutes. The payLo plans are different from the Beyond Talk plans that offer unlimited data and messaging that were recently changed as well.

Foursquare has updated its BlackBerry client to version 3.0, and has brought many features that Android and iOS users have enjoyed for some time to the BlackBerry platform. Unfortunately, the app is lacking the promised BBM integration that had appeared in earlier betas of the app, but foursquare promises that it will be coming to the final version soon.

PrepaYd signs deal with Sprint to offer MVNO network

PrepaYd has signed a deal with Sprint to use Sprint's network for its own private label wireless service. PrepaYd, as you might have guessed, will offer a pre-paid cellular service that uses Sprint's nationwide CDMA network through an MVNO agreement. The company is also a provider of pre-paid debit cards. It was not announced as to when the service would be launched.

Eric Schmidt responds to Apple's courtroom tactics

The new Motorola DROID 3 is the third iteration of the very first Android smartphone to launch on Verizon Wireless. The 3.0 version of the DROID features a larger, 4-inch display with qHD resolution, a 1080p HD capable 8 megapixel camera, and a new dual-core TI OMAP processor that runs at 1GHz. The newly designed 5-row QWERTY keyboard on the D3 is likely the best to date, and the device as a whole offers a great deal of functionality.

Samsung Galaxy Z headed to UK as Galaxy R

The Samsung Galaxy Z smartphone that was revealed for European markets earlier this month is said to be headed to the UK as the Galaxy R by the end of July. Featuring a step down in specs from its bigger brother, the Galaxy S II, the Galaxy R has a 4.2-inch, WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) display and a dual-core processor that is expected to be clocked slightly slower than the 1.2GHz unit in the Galaxy S II. The Galaxy R is slightly thicker and heavier than the Galaxy S II, and it features a 5 megapixel camera as opposed to the 8 megapixel shooter on the S II. Pricing and carrier availability for the R have yet to be announced.

UK versions of LG Optimus 3D to get Gingerbread update in October

LG's 3D smartphone, the Optimus 3D, unfortunately ran Android 2.2 Froyo instead of the current Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS when it was released in the UK this month. It looks like owners will be waiting until October to get their hands on the Gingerbread fun, as LG has said that is when the update is expected to hit the Optimus 3D in the UK. By that time, we will be right on top of the release of the next version of Android, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich, at which point the Optimus 3D will be a step behind once again. The October time-frame only applies to the UK, so it could be some time after that before other versions of the Optimus 3D receive the upgrade.

GameTanium offering Android users unlimited subscription gaming

Android is the latest platform to get a subscription gaming service thanks to New York City-based Extent and its GameTanium Mobile platform. GameTanium Mobiles offers a Netflix-like gaming experience on an Android smartphone, as users pay a monthly subscription fee to access a library of games as much as they would like.

ITC upholds decision that Kodak did not infringe on Apple's patents

The International Trade Commission has upheld a decision by one of its administrative law judges that says Kodak did not violate Apple's patents on cameras. The lawsuits the Kodak has against Apple and RIM that claim patent infringement are still being reviewed by the ITC. Kodak spokesman David Lanzillo commented on the ITC's decision: "We are pleased that the commission has confirmed the ALJ's finding that there is no violation by Kodak."

HP TouchPad owners can finally be happy e-book readers, as the long-promised Amazon Kindle app for the TouchPad is now available. As with every other Kindle app for other platforms, the Kindle app for the TouchPad allows you to access all of the ebooks you have purchased from Amazon, and it keeps your place updated across all platforms with Amazon's Whispersync technology. You can also browse Amazon's collection of more that 950,000 titles and make purchases from the TouchPad. Amazon Kindle Beta for the TouchPad is free and available to download from the HP App Catalog now. It is only available to U.S. users for the time being.
