Sony Ericsson sent us an Xperia X10 Android smartphone for review. While we initially expected a retail-ready device, we ended up getting a pre-production unit that kept us from doing a normal review. But after 2+ weeks with the phone, we certainly have some strong opinions on it.

Google Earth unavailable for Motorola DROID smartphones running Android 2.1

A few of our readers have mailed in informing us that Google Earth was no longer available in the Android Market after they updated their Motorola DROID devices to Android 2.1. Those that rely on Google Earth may want to hold off on the update until we hear word from Google or Verizon Wireless on why it's no longer available.

iPhone OS 4 event scheduled for April 8th

Today Apple sent out invitations to an iPhone OS event for Thursday, April 8th at 10am PST. Little was said in the invitation other than "Get a sneak peek into the future of iPhone OS," although we suspect Apple will discuss its iPhone OS 4 operating system. We'll keep you up to date on Thursday.

T-Mobile may be offering $350 HTC HD2 incentive for iPhone ditchers

Rumor has it T-Mobile may be offering up to $350 towardas a new HTC HD2 if you're willing to ditch your iPhone. However, the device must be in working condition and T-Mobile corporate retailers aren't participating.

Motorola DROID Android 2.1 update rolls out to Verizon Wireless customers

As of Friday Verizon Wireless Motorola DROID owners began receiving their Android 2.1 updates. Verizon Wireless says it is pushing out the update in phases and that it will be delivered to Motorola DROID devices over the next few weeks.

SPB TV now available for Palm webOS smartphones

Today SPB Software announced its SPB TV client for webOS powered smartphones. The software features picture-in-picture preview, an integrated TV guide, video on-demand, public TV channels, and adaptive network bandwidth control. The add-supported application is available for the Palm Pre and Palm Pre Plus running firmware 1.4, and is expected to work on the Palm Pixi and Palm Pixi Plus with firmware 1.4.1.

Apple sold over 300,000 iPads on opening day

Today Apple said that as of midnight on Saturday, April 3rd, the end of the iPad's launch day, the company had sold over 300,000 units to U.S. customers. That sales figure includes pre-ordered devices. Apple also noted that it sold over 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore during the same time period. "It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world-it's going to be a game changer, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said. "iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad," he added.
