T-Mobile Sidekick 4G gets retired, Sidekick brand on hold for now Posted: 16 Mar 2012 01:28 PM PDT T-Mobile has decided to pull the plug on its Sidekick 4G smartphone and is, for now, putting the Sidekick line of smartphones on hold until further notice. Our friends at The Verge reached out to the carrier and were told "While the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G is being retired, it doesn't mean we are discontinuing the T-Mobile Sidekick line. T-Mobile continues to update and expand its 4G product portfolio and we'll keep you posted when we have news to share on T-Mobile's latest 4G devices." The T-Mobile Sidekick line is best known for the slide-up or flip-out full QWERTY keyboard found on its devices. Read the full story here. |
Apple iPhone reigns supreme for overall smartphone customer satisfaction Posted: 16 Mar 2012 12:46 PM PDT According to J.D. Power and Associates, Apple yet again has taken the top spot in the 2012 U.S. Wireless Smartphone Satisfaction Study. For the seventh consecutive time, Apple tops the list in overall customer satisfaction, especially when it comes to ease of operation and features. HTC is second, with Samsung in third, below the industry average. Palm, Nokia, and BlackBerry all fall at the bottom of the list. Nokia Lumia devices to get tethering firmware update soon Posted: 16 Mar 2012 11:09 AM PDT Nokia has confirmed via a FAQ published on its Nokia Connects web page that its Lumia-branded Windows Phone smartphones will get tethering support soon. Nokia says the update will be available for its 800 and 710 via a Zune update and that its 900 and 610 smartphones will have tethering support enabled by default when they start shipping. Entry level Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus Android smartphone available March 17 Posted: 16 Mar 2012 10:36 AM PDT Samsung has announced it will begin offering its Galaxy Ace Plus smartphone starting March on 17 in the UK. The entry level handset offers a speedy 1GHz processor to power Google's Android Gingerbread operating system as well as Samsung's own TouchWiz user interface. The Galaxy Ace sports a 3.65-inch HVGA touchscreen display that shows off photos and videos taken with its built-in 5 megapixel camera. Unfortunately there is no HD video support on the device. The handset weighs in at just 115g (4oz.) and offers users HSDPA/WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity while on the go. Pricing has not been announced at this time. Read the full story here. |
RIM stock up on chatter of possible investment by Samsung Posted: 16 Mar 2012 09:55 AM PDT According to Barrons, Research In Motion's stock is up today for no obvious reason. There is chatter, however, that Samsung is looking to possibly make a $1.5 billion investment in the company, and that it is considering making its own BB10 OS devices once RIM brings the platform to market later this year. Android Google Play store update rolling out, adds My Apps tab and more Posted: 16 Mar 2012 09:48 AM PDT Google is slowly rolling out an update to the Google Play store, which was formerly called the Android Market. The update takes the store to version 3.5.15 and includes features such as a new My Apps tab that lets users swipe between installed and all apps easily, an expanded review area with filtering, and the ability to easily switch between multiple Google accounts. Android 4.0 ICS update process for HTC Vivid soon starting Posted: 16 Mar 2012 06:45 AM PDT As promised when it announced that it would carry HTC's new One X LTE smartphone, AT&T is set to start pushing out an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to users of its HTC Vivid smartphone. It has been widely reported that users can initiate the update by manually dialing the special code *#*#682#*#* and then accessing the AT&T Update function in the phone's settings. Smartphone battery life most important to customers, claims J.D. Power and Associates report Posted: 16 Mar 2012 05:14 AM PDT According to a new report from J.D. Power and Associates, smartphone users are most concerned with their devices' battery life when it comes to overall satisfaction. According to Kirk Parsons, Sr. Director of Wireless Services at J.D. Power and Associates, "Both carriers and manufacturers recognize the fact that battery life needs to be improved." Parsons added "however, the study uncovers the need for a greater sense of urgency -- short battery life can result in perceived phone problems, higher rates of merchandise returns and customer defections."
