Apple App Store reaches 25 billion downloads

Cupertino giant Apple has reached a new app store milestone and now surpassed 25 billion downloads in its iTunes App Store. Apple has been running a countdown promo and now says to check back later to find out which lucky app downloader won a $10,000 App Store Gift Card. Apple opened its App Store July 10, 2008. It broke the 15 billion download mark last summer and hit the 10 billion point 13 months ago in January of 2011.

Wal-Mart, Target among retailers planning NFC mobile payment system

According to The Wall Street Journal, its sources have informed it that Wal-Mart and Target are teaming up with roughly twenty other retailers to develop a new phone-based mobile payment system that is meant to compete with Google's Wallet and Isis, the mobile payment initiative formed by Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile USA.
