New HTC Sense SDK to include Beats Audio support

At Mobile World Congress last week, HTC revealed a new set of application programming interfaces (APIs) for developers that will allow them to work with HTC's Sense software features. The updated software developer kit (SDK) will includes APIs for Beats Audio, Sense's lock screen, mobile device management, and HTC MediaLink. The HTC OpenSense SDK will be released to developers in the coming weeks.

FCC stalls Dish cellular phone network plans

Hopes for satellite giant Dish to start a new wireless network have been dashed. For now, at least. The FCC has denied the company's request for a waiver that would allow it to build a ground-based wireless phone network while indicating that a more formal deliberation is needed and will take until the year's end to complete. The delay does not mean Dish's proposed network will be killed off, but Dish chairman Charlie Ergen had said "if Dish was not granted a waiver, or if there was a delay with a decision, it may have to look at alternatives with its wireless assets, including writing down their value." That appears to be the case now.

China first country to hit 1 billion mobile subscribers

The number of mobile phone subscribers in the world's most populated country, China, has now exceeded 1 million. According to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, subscribers had reached 997 million in late February and had been expected to exceed 1 billion by the month's end. The number of mobile users in China has doubled in the past five years, topping the 500 million mark back in 2007.

SugarSync for Android updated, adds social network sharing and storage earning

SugarSync, a popular cloud service that offers file syncing and management, has announced new improvements to its Android client that include social network sharing to Facebook and Twitter as well email and SMS. The update also brings support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the ability to earn free storage similar to competitor DropBox, and copy, move, and delete functionality for folders and files.
