OnLive Desktop now offering Windows 7 desktop access from Android tablets

OnLIve has announced its OnLive Desktop app for Android powered tablets. Already available for Apple's iPad, OnLive Desktop can now be downloaded for free from the Android Market. The app offers users access to a fully functional Windows 7 desktop experience with 2GB of storage that includes Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint access right from their Android powered tablets. OnLive is also offering a Plus version of the service for $4.99/month that comes adds gigabit-speed accelerated, Flash-capable browsing.

Huawei to bring Ascend D LTE and P1 LTE smartphones to Europe, Asia in July

Huawei has announced that it will offer LTE versions of its Ascend D and Ascend P1 smartphones in Europe and Asia come July. The Ascend D LTE is Huawei's dual-core version of the 4.5-inch D Quad smartphone, while the Ascend P1 LTE features a super-slim profile and 4.3-inch qHD display.

Hands-on with Panasonic's 5-inch ELUGA Power smartphone

Along with the original ELUGA, Panasonic also announced the ELUGA Power at Mobile World Congress 2012. The ELUGA Power has a larger, 5-inch display, and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich instead of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Qualcomm's lock on LTE, or why we don't have quad-core LTE devices yet

There were two big features that many device manufacturers were pushing hard this year at Mobile World Congress: quad-core processors and 4G LTE connectivity. However, we never saw those two features together on the same device. The reason this is the case, it seems, appears to have to do with chip maker Qualcomm.

MetroPCS is now offering LG's Connect 4G LTE smartphone to its customers. The contract-free device boasts a large, super-bright 4-inch NOVA touchscreen display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, and runs Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. MetroPCS is offering the new slab shaped smartphone for $319, after a $30 mail-in rebate.

Nokia offers Lumia 710 owners free color battery covers

Nokia has announced that it is offering Lumia 710 owners free replacement battery covers in a variety of colors. The Xpress-on covers come in either white, cyan, fuchsia, or yellow, and are a direct replacement for the cover that comes with the phone. Owners have until April 13, 2012 to submit their request for the covers at www.nokiacolorcover.com.

Flipboard for iOS gets an update, adds Cover Stories for iPad and more

Social media magazine Flipboard has refreshed its iPad app and has added Cover Stories, a personalization feature that is already being utilized on the iPhone app. iPhone and iPad users can now get French editions of Flipboard as well a third page of tiles for your favorite content, new full screen images, international content guides, and the ability to pick topics of interest for a more personalized experience.

LG Optimus L3 smartphone to debut in Europe this month

During Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, LG introduced the Optimus L3 smartphone and today the Korean manufacturer has just announced the handset will hit European store shelves this month. The Optimus L3 offers a 3.2-inch QVGA touchscreen display that allows users to watch video and view pictures taken with its 3 megapixel on-board camera. An 800MHz dual-core processor powers Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. Exact date and pricing have yet to be announced.

Samsung sells over 2 million Galaxy Notes, expects 10 million by year end

Sprint to offer "at least" 11 Google Wallet Phones in 2012

Google has revealed that it will expand its Google Wallet support to 10 more phones with Sprint. Sprint and Google had already announced the Viper by LG to be one of the first 4G LTE devices to support the tap and go payment system. Google Wallet is a mobile payment system that works with NFC-capable devices by tapping an Android smartphone at over 300,00 locations or 22 of the nation's largest retailers as well as support with the MasterCard PayPass system. The Google Galaxy Nexus with support for the Google Wallet payment system is also due to hit Sprint later this year .

AT&T changes "Top 5%" policy, data throttling now clearer

AT&T has changed its policy on dealing with legacy "unlimited" data users consuming what the company considers to be "too much" of the unlimited data that they signed up for. Previously the company would throttle the data connections for any users that were in the top 5 percent of their local market's data users. And that lead to problems.
