Sony says Android 4.0 ICS upgrades coming next month

Sony has announced that it plans to launch the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades for the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V, and Xperia ray in the middle of April. The roll-out will be gradual and is expected to take four to six weeks to complete. Sony says the upgrade will require users to use their PC or Mac to install it, and it will not be made available over-the-air. Owners of the Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active, and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman can expect to see their upgrades arrive at the end of May or early June.

Verizon uses mobile video service as leverage for spectrum buy

Verizon Wireless has revealed that should it get approval to purchase the unused spectrum from cable companies that it proposed late last year, it would be able to deliver a mobile television service to its customers by the end of the year. Mobile television has been very popular in Japan and Korea, but it has never gained traction in the U.S. despite numerous attempts by various companies, including Qualcomm.

Google Wallet updated for the two phones that can use it

Google has released an update for its Wallet NFC payment app for the Google Nexus S 4G on Sprint and the unlocked Google Galaxy Nexus used with an AT&T SIM card. The update adds some user interface improvements and includes bug fixes and privacy enhancements. It is available to download on compatible devices in the Google Play Store now.

T-Mobile promises Android 4.0 ICS upgrades for HTC Sensation 4G, Amaze 4G

T-Mobile is jumping on the bandwagon of carriers that promise Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates for their existing phones but don't say exactly when we will see them. The carrier has posted information to its support site saying that the HTC Sensation 4G and the HTC Amaze 4G will both see Android 4.0 updates in the future. Unfortunately, we don't know exactly when in the future that will be. HTC has been one of the most aggressive Android manufacturers with deploying Android 4.0 updates to its existing lineup, and it has already released a number of updates for international models and has updated the HTC Vivid for AT&T. Hopefully it won't be too long before T-Mobile customers get invited to the party.

Nokia Lumia 900 now available for pre-order from AT&T

Nokia's highly-anticipated Lumia 900 Windows Phone smartphone is now available for pre-order from AT&T. The 4.3-inch, 4G LTE-equipped smartphone runs Windows Phone 7.5 and features a single-piece, polycarbonate design. AT&T is offering pre-orders for the Lumia 900 in either cyan or black for $99.99 with a new two-year contract. Those colors are expected to hit stores on April 8, while a glossy white version will be available on April 22. UPDATE 1:00 p.m. ET: We have received confirmation from AT&T that the online pre-order page is due to go live this afternoon, though a specific time was not provided. Ordering through AT&T's customer service department or in a store may still be the best bet for now. UPDATE 3:49 p.m. ET: And it looks like the online pre-order site is now live. Order away.

Temple Run for Android racks up 1 million downloads in three days

According to the Google Play Store, the Android version of Imangi Studios' popular Temple Run game has notched over one million downloads since its release just three days ago. The ever-popular iOS version hit 45 million downloads in seven months after its release. Temple Run for Android is supported on 707 different Android devices and is available for free from the Google Play Store now.

Nano-SIM vote postponed for 30 days by ETSI board

The vote on proposed design for the next generation of SIM cards, commonly called nano-SIM, has been postponed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). The group was due to vote on the matter today, but it could be another 30 days before a decision is made.

Amazon Appstore for Android updated with bug fixes, larger download limit

Amazon has pushed an update to its Appstore for Android that addresses a number of bugs and increases the size limit for apps downloaded over cellular networks. Version 2.3 fixes the notification bugs that plagued previous versions, and ups the app download limit over 3G or 4G connections from 20MB to 50MB. Amazon says that there are also other stability and performance enhancements included with the update. Existing users should get a notification when they open the app that an update is available, while everyone else can grab the new version from Amazon's website.
