Samsung Galaxy S 4G smartphone now available from T-Mobile Posted: 23 Feb 2011 05:13 AM PST Today T-Mobile is officially offering the new Samsung Galaxy S 4G smartphone, a successor to original Galaxy S Vibrant. The Galaxy S 4G will support theoretical download speeds of up to 21Mbps on T-Mobile's 4G HSPA+ network, runs Android 2.2 Froyo, offers a front facing camera for video chatting, and otherwise looks very similar to the original Vibrant. Microsoft pulling Samsung Omnia 7 Windows Phone 7 update Posted: 23 Feb 2011 05:10 AM PST Microsoft has begun pulling a Windows Phone 7 update that it began rolling out to some Samsung Omnia 7 users recently. The small update was supposed to prepare the phone for a bigger update that would add copy/paste functionality, however, some users were reporting issues with their phones after the new software was applied. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on a new software update. If you're an Omnia 7 owner, however, and are currently being alerted of a new update, it's probably a good idea to ignore it. Samsung expected to offer 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab Posted: 23 Feb 2011 05:06 AM PST According to Yonhap News, Samsung is setting the stage for yet another variant to its Galaxy Tab. A Samsung company spokesperson told Yonhap News that it will release an 8.9-inch tablet computer that will run on Google's Android operating system. According to the report, the tablet is expected the first half of this year but the local media is indicating the tablet may hit as soon as next month. Google Nexus S Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update rolling out Posted: 22 Feb 2011 07:50 PM PST According to a tweet posted by Google's Nexus Twitter account, an update for the Nexus S and Nexus One's Android Gingerbread OS is starting to roll out. Google releases final Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet SDK Posted: 22 Feb 2011 03:48 PM PST Today Google released the full Android 3.0 Honeycomb SDK, which now offers developers a finalized API to work with to develop apps for the new Android tablets that are about to hit the market. According to Google the new SDk offers improved support for things like RenderScript graphics, gesture overlays in applications, and a better emulator that more closely shows how an application will appear on a real tablet. Twitter for BlackBerry updated with new features Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:07 AM PST Today RIM announced that it has released an update to Twitter for BlackBerry beta application. Version 1.1 includes @mention push notifications, threaded direct messages, #topic auto-complete, and deeper integration with RIM's social feeds feature. It also adds gesture support; users on touchscreen BlackBerry devices can swipe their finger down on the screen to automatically refresh their feed. Twitter for BlackBerry 1.1 will work on devices running BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 and higher. The update should be available for free in BlackBerry App World now. Read the full story here. |
Wal-Mart selling AT&T Motorola ATRIX 4G for $129.99 Posted: 22 Feb 2011 09:30 AM PST Wal-Mart Wireless is now selling the Motorola ATRIX 4G, which launched on AT&T today, for $129.99 with a new two-year contract. That's a big discount from AT&T's $199.99 pricing. Unfortunately, Wal-Mart is not including the Laptop Dock accessory or the Multimedia dock, so if you want those complimentary devices, you'll need to purchase the ATRIX 4G from AT&T. Motorola XOOM launching February 24 for $599 with Verizon contract Posted: 22 Feb 2011 06:23 AM PST Verizon Wireless today confirmed that it will launch the Motorola XOOM, a 10.1-inch Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet powered by a 1GHz processor, on February 24. The device will cost $599.99 with a new two-year Verizon Wireless agreement, or $799.99 without a contract. 1GB of data will cost $20 per month, although that price may change when the XOOM gets support for Verizon's 4G LTE network later this year. Motorola XOOM to get Flash "in a few weeks," says Adobe Posted: 22 Feb 2011 06:22 AM PST A Verizon Wireless page about the upcoming Motorola XOOM Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet yesterday indicated that Adobe Flash support will not be available right away, but rather in the spring of 2011. Adobe has clarified the timeframe a bit on its own blog, noting that the Adobe Flash 10.2 version of its Android software will be available "in a few weeks." Read the full story here. |
