HTC ChaCha, Wildfire S, and Desire S coming soon on Vodafone UK

Vodafone UK has announced that it will soon offer three of HTC's newest Android smartphones, the ChaCha, Salsa, and Desire S. The ChaCha and Salsa feature a one-touch Facebook button that allows you to quickly share content with your Facebook friends. The HTC ChaCha features a 2.6-in touchscreen, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 5MP camera with auto-focus, and will run on Android 2.3 with advanced social networking integration. The Wildfire S Android smartphone will feature a 3.2-in display, a 5MP camera, and a super small form factor. The Android-powered Desire S has an aluminum unibody design and features a 3.7-in display, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording capabilities, a new 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

HTC Desire S headed to O2 UK later this year

One of HTC's latest announcements at the MWC, the Android-powered Desire S, will be available on O2 UK soon according to the company's official Twitter page. The Desire S is the successor to the popular HTC Desire smartphone. It features an aluminum unibody design, a 3.7-in display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording.

LG aims high in 2011, hopes to sell 150 million phones and 30 million smartphones

LG today at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona announced it is targeting a new sales goal this year. It hopes to sell 150 million mobile phones and 30 million smartphones globally. LG is pushing into the mobile fray with mobile phone offerings such as dual-core processors, 4G LTE support, and 3D technology. "We are already focusing all of our resources on delivering the widest variety of smart devices for all types of customers," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "This will be a critical year for LG and a lot of eyes are upon us to see if we'll succeed. We don't intend to let them down," he added.

While not specifically naming its newly launched ChaCha and Salsa Facebook integrated phones, HTC did say that the its Facebook "experience" would be available in the U.S. exclusively on AT&T. This could simply mean that the Salsa and ChaCha will show up with new names, or it could mean that similarly equipped phones with Facebook specific features like those handsets could be launched on AT&T in the future.

RIM expected to add new features to BlackBerry Messenger

RIM is soon expected to update its popular BBM client to version 6.0. It is reported that the new and upcoming version will offer users new ways to interact with others for games and music, send larger files through BBM, and invite users for chats within apps. There's still no word on when the update is expected to drop.

Orange announced today that it will soon carry the NFC-packing Samsung Wave 578. The carrier plans on launching several NFC enabled handsets from handset makers like LG and Nokia later this year, too. The Wave 578 will be launched in France, Spain and Poland in Q2 of this year before launching on a wider scale across Europe.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G arriving on February 23 for $149.99

T-Mobile has just confirmed via its Twitter account that it will offer the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, an Android 2.2 Froyo powered smartphone capable of running on its HSPA+ 4G network, on February 23. The device will cost $149.99 with a new two-year contract, but T-Mobile says that pricing will be available for a "limited time."

Adobe at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today confirmed that it will offer Flash Player version 10.2 (the next update) for Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb and RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook tablets. The latest release of Flash Player 10.2 supports new features including Stage Video, which offers improved video performance by decreasing processor and memory usage while enabling higher frame rates and improved video quality.

Today T-Mobile UK announced, via tits Twitter page, announced that it will offer the LG Optimus 3D in the future. Sadly, this is all the information available for the time being. The LG Optimus 3D will be the world's first 3D capable smartphone with a 4.3-in 3D LCD display, two 5MP cameras on the back for 3D video recording, with a 1GHz dual core processor. The phone will launch with Android 2.2 but LG says it's upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. No specific release date was mentioned.

Microsoft previews Xbox Kinect and Windows Phone 7 integration

Today at Microsoft's keynote speech at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, CEO Steve Ballmer showed a demonstration of the company's Xbox Kinect with Windows Phone 7 integration. The demo showed how the mobile operating system can work as a companion with the Xbox 360 Kinect motion controller. For instance, a WP7 smartphone owner could use their device to play a game against someone using an XBOX 360 in another room. The demo was a preview only, and it's unclear when the service will be launched.

Today at MWC in Barcelona, LG officially announced its new Optimus Pad tablet computer. Along with the announcement, LG Germany also published the expected price for the tablet: EUR999 ($1352.00). That seems a bit steep to us, given that you can buy a powerful notebook for less than that. The LG Optimus Tab runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb and features an 8.9-inch touchscreen display and dual 5 megapixel cameras for recording 3D video content. Hopefully we'll see carriers subsidize this price so it doesn't burn holes in too many pockets.

Microsoft to add Twitter, IE9, multitasking to WP7 this year

Today at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Microsoft listed some of the features it expects to see added to its Windows Phone 7 smartphone OS by the end of 2011. The company said that we should see Twitter integration, Internet Explorer 9, third party app multi-tasking, and new user interface enhancements this year. The third party multi-tasking will take a form similar to that offered on Apple's iOS platform, with support only for specific background functions, such as a background audio agent that application developers can take advantage of.

Skype announces Mobile Partner Program for operators in emerging markets

Today Skype announced a new Mobile Partner Program that it hopes will encourage wireless operators in markets with low 3G broadband penetration to use its services. The program will enable operators to deploy Skype on smartphones and feature phones that is optimized for bandwidth usage. ""Our mobile operator program will give operators in emerging markets the possibility to tap into the global Skype community while providing a great user experience on a variety of mobile handsets," Skype's vice president and general manager of mobile, Russ Shaw, said.

Motorola updates desktop sync software for its smartphones

Motorola has announced updates for its desktop based software, Media Link, which now links devices directly to Apple's iTunes for easy transfer of media content. It also added ZumoCast to its MotoConnect suite, which will be offered in Q3 of this year. ZumoCast allows Motorola users to have their own private "clouds" for storing and accessing mobile content while on the go. RIM debuts BBM mobile gifting platform

Today at MWC in Barcelona, BlackBerry maker Research In Motion announced a new mobile gifting platform for its BlackBerry users. The new service will allow carriers to enable mobile gifting for its BBM users so prepaid and post-aid customers can use the new BBM gifting service to pay for service, apps, and the alike. The new platform also allows users the ability to request service via BBM and the receipt can choose to either accept or deny the charge. An example of that: A parent can approve a child's request for more airtime minutes or a new application using a BBM message.

Nokia in talks with Verizon about CDMA devices

Qualcomm reveals 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon chip

Today Qualcomm officially announced the latest additions to its Snapdragon line of mobile processors. The new processor micro-architecture, which is code-named Krait, will offer speeds up to 2.5GHz per core. Qualcomm says this should offer 150-percent higher overall performance while consuming 65 percent less power. The latest chipsets include the single-core MSM8930, the dual-core MSM8960, and the quad-core APQ8064. The chipsets will include a new Adreno graphics processing unit (GPU) and a multi-mode LTE modem. Samples of the MSM8960 should be available during the second quarter, while samples of the single-core MSM8930 and quad-core APQ8064 should be available in early 2012.

Sony Ericsson has announced the new Xperia PLAY at Mobile World Congress 2011, and we spent some time with it at the official launch event. The PLAY is the first Playstation Certified handset available, and features controls much like you'd find on a Playstation controller, including twin analogue touch pads and left and right shoulder buttons. It also has a 4-inch touchscreen display, and can be controlled with movement using the built-in accelerometer.

The LG Optimus 3D will be available in the future on Three UK. The company made this official announcement by uploading a video on their YouTube channel regarding the subject. The Optimus 3D features a 4.3-in 3D LCD screen, dual 5MP cameras with 1080p Full HD recording and 720p 3D recording, a dual-core 1GHz processor. While it will run Android 2.2 Froyo out of the box, LG says it is upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Pricing and availability are unknown at this time.
