Sprint activates 4G roaming in Jamaica, Taiwan Posted: 31 Jan 2011 07:05 AM PST Today Sprint announced that customers can take advantage of its 4G network while traveling in Jamaica and in Taiwan. Sprint announced that it was working with Global Mobile in Taiwan and Digicel in Jamaica back in December, and the networks are now active. A 24-hour Daypass costs $14.99 excluding surcharges and taxes, and Sprint's SmartView Connection Manager will automatically detect the Digicel or Global Mobile networks. Read the full story here. |

Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V Android smartphone available from RadioShack Posted: 31 Jan 2011 04:58 AM PST RadioShack is now offering the LG Optimus V, an Android smartphone that has not yet been announced by Virgin Mobile. The Optimus V is similar to the other Optimus branded smartphones on other U.S. carriers. It offers a 3.2-inch screen, a 3MP camera, and runs Android 2.2 Froyo. It's currently available from RadioShack for $149.99 although Virgin Mobile doesn't have it listed on its own site yet. Read the full story here. |
Google hiring "dozens" of mobile software developers Posted: 31 Jan 2011 04:51 AM PST According to The Wall Street Journal, Google is planning to hire dozens of mobile software developers, from UI experts to product managers, to work on projects for smartphones. Sources speaking to The Journal said that Google has only created about 20 applications in-house and that the new hires will likely work on products specifically for Android. It's unclear what apps Google has in mind, but some believe it may try to create games to compete with Rovio's Angry Birds and a check-in service similar to Foursquare. Read the full story here. |
