Sprint Kyocera Echo dual-screen Android smartphone announced for $199.99 Posted: 07 Feb 2011 03:33 PM PST During a press event in New York City tonight Sprint and Kyocera announced the Kyocera Echo, an Android smartphone that offers two touchscreen displays that can run two different applications independently. Texas Instruments outs OMAP 5 mobile applications platform Posted: 07 Feb 2011 12:38 PM PST Today Texas Instruments introduced its OMAP 5 mobile applications platform, the successor to its OMAP 4 platform. Google intros Gmail mobile with priority inbox for HTML5-capable devices Posted: 07 Feb 2011 11:25 AM PST Today Google announced that its priority inbox for Gmail mobile is now available from all HTML5-capable phones at gmail.com. After setting up your priority inbox on the desktop version of Gmail, you'll be able to open your phone's browser and see all of your importance markets stored in your inbox. The feature has been available on Android smartphones, but will now run on iOS 3+ devices as well, such as the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Read the full story here. |
Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab for Sprint updated Posted: 07 Feb 2011 10:49 AM PST Sprint is rolling out a software update for its Samsung Galaxy Tab. The 7-inch Android tablet update is expected to offer new drivers for the LCD, apply a QIK software update, which will replace existing version, and some minor tweaks to its Exchange email client. LG Optimus S for Sprint gets an update Posted: 07 Feb 2011 10:40 AM PST The Optimus S by LG is receiving an update for users on Sprint's wireless network. The new update is expected to provide a better overall user experience as well as a few fixes and improvements that include new drivers for the LCD, an SD card detection fix, and removing an annoying language selection from the Optimus S's start up wizard. Alcatel-Lucent working on golf-ball sized mobile phone base stations Posted: 07 Feb 2011 07:15 AM PST Alcatel-Lucent announced a new lightRadio technology that will enable mobile base stations to be just slightly larger than a golf ball. It hopes this will help wireless operators cut power requirements and save on network operating costs. Verizon, Orange, and China Mobile are expected to test the new tech this year. The Galaxy Tab was Samsung's first Android tablet, but it's expected that Samsung will announce the Galaxy Tab 2 next week during the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona. Huawei to announce S7 Slim tablet at Mobile World Congress Posted: 07 Feb 2011 05:52 AM PST Huawei recently tweeted from its official Twitter account saying "The Huawei IDEOS brand expands to include tablets. Take a look at the latest S7 Slim which will be launched at MWC." It didn't provide details on the tablet, but there are a few images available that are worth checking out. We hope the S7 Slim runs Android 3.0 Gingerbread, but Huawei hasn't listed any specs just yet. We'll find out more during Mobile World Congress next week, which we'll be attending. Sony Ericsson Xperia Play lands on O2 in the UK Posted: 07 Feb 2011 05:48 AM PST O2 in the UK announced via its Twitter account that it will soon offer the Xperia Play from Sony Ericsson. The Xperia Play is an Android smartphone that has been referred to as the PlayStation phone and is expected to offer a full PlayStation style controller and large touchscreen display. New Angry Birds update available for Android and iOS devices Posted: 07 Feb 2011 05:42 AM PST Fanatical Angry Birds users will be happy to know that a new update is rolling out for Apple iPhone and iPad users. The new iOS update offers users 15 more levels of play, along with a secret 16th level. Android users will also be able to purchase the Mighty Eagle for $0.99 using SMS.
